Day two of the Trinity River Festival kicks off with Modern Pasta performing at 11:30 a.m. and Spillie Nelson headlining tonight at 10 p.m at the McCully Heritage Project.

For each new subscription in February, the Calhoun News-Herald will donate $10 to the Society of St. Vincent De Paul and $3 for every renewed subscription. More information available on the flyer below.

A wonderful turn out tonite in Kampsville. A beautiful display of fireworks where held at The Pavillion, on Saturday July 3. There was a huge turnout as people celebrated for the Fourth of July. A story about the private celebration will follow in July 7 issue in the Calhoun News-Hearld. Look for details then. Below posting of a video of some of the fireworks...
Brussels Ferry has closed, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
"Due to continued ice floe, we are unable to safely operate the Brussels Ferry," officials stated. "Ice is accumulating on both landings. Unfortunately, we have closed the Brussels Ferry."
The Kamspville Ferry has closed due to icy conditions on the water, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation District 8.
"There is [a] significant ice floe near the Kampsville Ferry crossing," officials stated on Twitter. "Unfortunately, we can no longer safely operate the Ferry and have ceased operations. Please find the best alternate route for your trip."
The Brussels Ferry on the other hand has been able to stay operational.
"Ice is starting to build at Brussels Ferry," officials stated. "However, the River current and prevailing wind are allowing us to keep the crossing fairly open and maintain normal operations. Please continue to monitor the weather and River conditions."
Are you all ready for the Big Game Sunday? We hear it is a "super" time to sit down with a "bowl" of chips and hangout. Who are you rooting for: the Chiefs or the Buccaneers? Are planning on representing these teams in any way? We are looking for pictures of any celebrating you might do on a day that in many households is a yearly celebration. The first 5 submissions will be in the upcoming issues of the paper. They must include local individuals and should include their name, what town they are from, and a brief description of what they are doing. Please comment below with your submissions.
We loved the photos of your time in the snow last week. We are especially happy locals kids took advantage of the day and got out to have some fun in the snow. Be sure to check out this week's issue, which includes some of the photos submitted by those in the community.
It feels like winter has finally come, if not evident by what felt like the first significant snowfall of the season this week. Did you jump out into the snow? We are a few weeks into the harvest season, and we are wanting to see your efforts getting ready for the season or out harvesting. From fixing up the combine or actually harvesting the grain🚜, we want to publish your photo submissions to show everyone your efforts out in the fields.
We will publish the first 15 submissions in a future issue of the newspaper (One photo per submission). The submissions must include the name of the individual(s) in the photo and the town they live in. Also too, briefly explain what is happening in the photo. Please comment on this post with your submission and information.

JPRD has resumed what sports they can, and there’s lots of little league games happening all over the area. We want to remind you that we’re always accepting sports photo submissions of the our area’s up and coming sports stars!
Just remember to include names and towns of residence for all those pictured in submissions. We’ll run them anytime we have space we need to fill in the paper.
It’s time for school!
And while we know that the first day is going to look different for everybody this year, we want to see your first day back pictures, regardless of where you’re learning from.
Teachers, show us your classrooms! Students, show us your new back to school gear! Parents, show us you relaxing and watching television for the first time since March! Just kidding, that would probably be a boring photo.
Whether your student is homeschooling, remote learning or returning to in-person classes, we’d love to be able to share your pictures with the community.
Please include names, grade levels and the school the child is attending and make sure all photos do have a human in them.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the Brussels Ferry will be closed for a two-week period starting in late August. No traffic will be allowed to cross the ferry during this period, according to IDOT.

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 9 pm this evening for central and a small part of southeast Illinois. Conditions are favorable for quickly developing tornadoes, mainly with lines of storms, as well as damaging wind gusts, hail between 1 and 1.5 inches in diameter and heavy rain. Seek shelter immediately if threatening weather approaches or if a warning is issued for your location.
