State Sen. Raj Mukherji said he sees “better odds” this year for the passage of a Caven Point Protection Act, which would specifically ban privatization of the migratory bird habitat that the neighboring Liberty National Golf Course had wanted to expand into.

“After decades of fighting we need to get to a place where it’s understood that privatization of the park is not an option,” said Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop.

In the bankruptcy disclosure filing, CarePoint noted it has been hit with approximately 55 vendor lawsuits totaling $165 million in debt. The document also noted an $88 million debt to HRH, which owns and leases the Bayonne Medical Center land to CarePoint; and millions in unpaid loans that were taken out to keep the hospitals afloat.

The DOH’s 10-page response provides new insight into how long CarePoint has been struggling and the previously unreported steps the state has taken to prop up CarePoint’s three hospitals.

With a population of 700,000 in the most densely populated area of the state, Hudson County residents do deserve to have efficient and safe ways of getting around without being mired in congestion.

"Public transportation is the safest way to travel, and in conjunction with this plan, we encourage the county to invest in Bus Rapid Transit on JFK Boulevard, which runs through the entire county and connects all our municipalities," the author writes.
