At the start of the school year, Thorpe Gordon Elementary officially became Thorpe Gordon STEM Academy. The elementary school is transitioning into Jefferson City’s first public STEM school after a year of preparation.

“To be a STEM school just means that we’re going to take our curriculum and introduce it to kids in a way that helps them see that STEM is everywhere,” Principal Delora Scaggs said

Like many people, Stacey Eisterhold was up bright and early for school. Eisterhold has been teaching for 28 years and has touched thousands of lives in the process. She has called Immaculate Conception her home for 20 years. For the first 18 years, she taught fifth grade and then had the opportunity to become the middle school reading teacher. She has adored the position for the past two years and is excited to continue spreading the joy of reading to her students.

Becoming a lifeguard is a fun part-time summer job that can develop lifelong skills and friendships. Lifeguarding is a popular job role due to its flexibility and fun in the sun, but above all, it is an important task.

Jefferson City is the home to the Ellis-Porter Riverside Pool and the Memorial Park Family Aquatic Center, where there is an opportunity for fun, learning, socializing and working.

On Tuesday, an Advanced Defensive Camp will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m., focusing on the fundamentals at each defensive position, excluding pitchers. From 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Lincoln will host an Advanced Hitting Camp featuring drills and fundamental training for players at the plate.

Interested athletes who cannot make it on Tuesday will have the chance again to participate on June 24, when both camps are held again at the same times. The cost is $30 per camp and each session is open to players in grades 7th-12th.

The team will also hold two pitching camps. The first session will cover basic pitching drills, with players working up to more intermediate and advanced drills in each of the following two sessions. The first pitching camp will be held on June 13 from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., while the second will be held on July 18, also from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Each camp will cost $60 and is open to players in grades 8th-12th.

Lastly, on July 25-27 the LU softball team will host a Future Blue Tiger Camp for players in grades 6th-12th. The camp will be held from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. each day, with drill instruction to help players improve their defense, hitting and base running skills. The Future Blue Tiger Camp costs $75.
