Don't miss Community Safety Night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at The Venue!

The Gadsden Police Department is partnering with public safety agencies throughout Etowah County to host this inaugural event.

Community Safety Night is a family-oriented event dedicated to increasing familiarity and camaraderie between law enforcement officers and Gadsden and Etowah County citizens.

Joining the Gadsden Police Department in this yearā€™s event will be the Gadsden Fire Department, the Gadsden-Etowah Emergency Management Agency, the Etowah County Sheriffā€™s Office, the Attalla Police Department, the Glencoe Police Department, the Rainbow City Police Department, and the Southside Police Department.

Attendees will experience fun, engaging, and educational activities such as a dunking booth, motorcycle displays, D.U.I. simulation courses, and multiple rock-climbing adventures. Children and families will be able to explore various types of law enforcement and public safety vehicles up-close, including tactical special operations, helicopters, fire engines, ambulances, and more.

The goal of Community Safety Night is to help develop trust and partnership between first responders and families in the community they serve. This yearā€™s event is the first of what the City of Gadsden plans to become an annual event and is part of a countrywide event known as National Night Out.

ā€œThese men and women are our neighbors, coaches, and friends,ā€ said Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford. ā€œWe can all do more to support them because they sacrifice so much to support us and our families. I am looking forward to seeing children and families connecting with our public safety community at this event while they make special memories together. I know it will pay dividends as these men and women serve and protect us all throughout the year.ā€

In keeping with the spirit of community outreach, the first 200 children admitted will receive specialized t-shirts as mementos from the participating agencies. Community Safety Night is sponsored by the City of Gadsden and the Gadsden Rotary Club.

The storm clouds rolled in just as we did, and unfortunately, our car show was cut short after only 45 minutes. Despite the weather, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to WCKA and Made U Look Advertising for their incredible support in making this night memorable.

We're just over two months away from the Gadsden Fire Department's inaugural 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event and walk.

This event will allow participants to symbolically climb the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center to honor the firefighters lost that day. A 3.43-mile walk with no stairs is available as an option.

The event also supports the GFD's annual Toys from Santa program.
