Remember that today isn't just about fun and time off. It's a time to honor and respect the people who fought for our Nation, gave the ultimate sacrifice.
It may sound like a cliché. It's not. It may sound like a marketing message. It's not. Our Veterans are all around us and today can be a difficult day for them. Share sympathy. Share empathy if you can. Many of us can't. Most of all share compassion.
We salute you and we salute the Flag today. We remember you if you're no longer with us. Even if we don't believe in the individual battles or wars we recognize that what you did, you did for us, the United States, and the World.
Visit a monument today if you have one nearby. Take a period of silence if you don't. Call a Veteran. Spend time with them if they're receptive, give them space if not.
If you're in need of a sobering moment, I recommend this website:
https://www.military.com/topics/military-casualties
It shouldn't be treated like a spreadsheet. Scroll with caution because you should feel it in your heart. Find an article that calls out to you and read it carefully and honor those in it.
Today I'm remembering the 3 soldiers killed in a Blackhawk helicopter crash in New York in January. So close to home, and in place we wouldn't have even considered the front lines.
Wishing you the best and safest Memorial Day,
Chris
