In recent memory, the Jackson football team has only had a few wide receivers be named to the prestigious all-state team to cap off their season.

Indians senior Kai Crowe was the latest in 2023, where he not only led Jackson in receiving but helped the program achieve postseason glory once again. He's primed to keep doing the same and more in his final season this fall.

Following her final season of high school softball at Oak Ridge, 2024 graduate Anna Davis officially signed with State Fair Community College to continue her playing career!

As a junior, Davis helped the Bluejays finish with an above .500 record for the first time in over a decade. She recorded a .365 batting average with 19 hits, 16 runs scored and nine stolen bases.

Ross Furniture announced today it will be closing its Jackson store to focus on its Furniture Finds location in Cape Girardeau. The store, which has been open in Jackson for 45 years, will begin its closing sale on Thursday and is set to close in the next 60-90 days.

POWER OUTAGE UPDATE: As of 10:35 a.m., August 13, all power has been restored to the affected homes in the Trail Ridge, Eastridge Place, and Kimbelwoods area.

HEADS UP: Due to necessary electric system work, a planned power outage is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, for the neighborhoods of Trail Ridge, Eastridge, Kimble Woods, and homes in the 2400-2700 blocks of Old Cape Road. Electric crews will be performing work to replace defective power equipment.

Those affected include the following subdivisions:

1. All of the homes in Trail Ridge Subdivision., including customers on Whitney Jean Dr., Drew Ave., Shannon Ct., Leigh Ann Ct., Smith Tr., Trail Ridge Rd., and Old Cape Rd.

2. All of the homes in Eastridge Place Subdivision, including customers on Union Station Rd. and Sierra Ct.

3. A portion of the Kimble Woods Subdivision, including homes addressed as 808, 830, 920, 986, 947, and 948 Kimbelwoods Dr.

4. Seven homes along Old Cape Road addressed as 2505, 2525, 2535, 2625, 2635, 2655, and 2675 Old Cape Rd.

All motorists are asked to always use extreme caution when traveling in and near the work zone and to obey all warning signs.

Jackson will have a new City Administrator in September! The Mayor and Board of Aldermen enthusiastically confirmed the appointment of Matthew Winters as City Administrator on Monday, August 5, 2024 in executive session.

“I was very pleased to appoint Matt as the new City Administrator; his vast municipal experience and roots in Southeast Missouri make him the perfect choice for Jackson,” said Mayor Dwain Hahs.

Mr. Winter’s expected start date is Monday, September 23. Until then, City Administrator Roach will continue in his current role as City Administrator. Mr. Roach has held the City Administrator position in Jackson for 23 years.
