Meet the Black women leading Our Stories Our Voices: Dr. Mauda Monger, CEO of the SHE Project; Dr. Hanna Tessema, and Ms. Lisa Frederick, Co-Executive Directors of the Black Women's Learning Institute. Together, with the support of ViiV's Positive Action Community Grant, they are amplifying the voices of Black women, addressing systemic inequities, and creating spaces for healing and empowerment. Check out Our Stories Our Voices, Jackson 💜✨

"There’s something powerful about storytelling—it connects us, it heals us, and it reminds us of our shared humanity. Too often, Black women are ignored—in doctor’s offices, relationships, and society at large. But when given a safe space to speak their truth, something shifts.

This project is about creating that space. It’s about amplifying the voices of Black women so their stories are heard and their experiences are validated. Because when Black women thrive, we all thrive. 🌿💜

There will be no in-person or virtual learning. All JPS athletic events are also canceled for Tuesday, January 21st. This decision was made in consultation with the National Weather Service.

The Board of Trustees meeting will take place virtually at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, and will be streamed live on the JPS ITV YouTube page.
Community members must be present in-person in the Board room located at 621 South State Street to deliver public comments.

We will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and provide updates regarding school operations for Wednesday, January 22.

You can find the latest information and updates on official JPS platforms, including our website, www.jackson.k12.ms.us, Facebook

Dear Jackson Public Schools Families,

We want to address a false report circulating on social media that says Jackson Public Schools are closed until January 13. Please be assured that this information is not accurate.

District leaders are aware of the misinformation, and we want to confirm that JPS is open and operating according to normal schedules unless otherwise noted.

🎉 Happy Birthday, Dr. Bill Cooley! 🎉 Chapter 95 looks great on you!

On this special day, we want to celebrate not only the birthday of a visionary leader but also the incredible legacy he has built.

Dr. Bill (Doc) and Toni Cooley are the founders of the Center for Social Entrepreneurship (CSE) - the nonprofit arm of the for-profit Sytems Group of Companies. Their work combines the principles of business excellence with a heart for community revitalization.

Through years of intentional dedication, their vision has impacted countless lives, creating opportunities and intergenerational wealth for an under-resourced community.

Today, we honor Doc’s wisdom, compassion, and leadership in building a brighter future for all.

Join us in wishing Dr. Bill Cooley a wonderful birthday and celebrating his legacy!
