LINDSAY PIONEER BUSINESSES EXHIBIT

The pioneer business people of Lindsay left a lasting legacy of enterprise and buildings. Through the photographer's lens we have tangible evidence of businesses that came and went during the
first fifty years of progress. Also, ephemeral evidence such as receipts, record books, etc. help to give more accurate insight into those entrepreneurs. Included in this exhibit is memorabilia from businesses that have served Lindsay for decades, many still in operation.

Which ones do you remember? Which long-running businesses do you still frequent? Which is part of enduring memories for you and your family and friends?

The Lindsay Museum and Gallery is open to the public on Fridays from noon to 4pm, free of charge. All are invited to view this special exhibit, which will on display through the winter months.

Visalia Police Arrest 102 and Recover $35K in Stolen Goods During "Holiday Madness" Operation

In November and December 2024, the Visalia Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit and HOPE Team launched a coordinated effort called "Holiday Madness" to combat retail theft during the busy holiday season. This initiative involved multiple operations targeting both retail stores and residential areas for burglaries, resulting in 102 arrests and the recovery of approximately $35,000 in stolen merchandise.

Officers worked diligently to identify and apprehend suspects involved in these crimes, many of whom were from outside the Visalia area. The operation also focused on deterring residential burglaries, and assuring both businesses and homeowners felt safe throughout the holidays.

With Proposition 36 now in effect, some retail thefts are now considered felonies, carrying significantly tougher penalties. This emphasizes the serious consequences of theft, as those caught may face long-term criminal records and severe legal repercussions.

The Visalia Police Department will continue to combat retail theft and make arrests to protect our community. Through ongoing proactive efforts, we are committed to ensuring a safer environment for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

An operational improvement has begun at Lovers Lane that is not part of Caltrans ten year plan to completely build a new interchange just east of Lovers Lane at Road 148. Preliminary work by Caltrans to reroute traffic exiting Highway 198 at Lovers Lane (State Route 216) has begun, reports Visalia City Hall. Preparations will continue through the winter months. Then in March, the project – which includes permanently blocking a portion of Mineral King east of Lovers Lane – goes into high gear.

The Valley Voice comes out tonight at midnight!

What are your plans for Martin Luther King Day on January 20? Join the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sequoias Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day March from Visalia-Gindick Club, located at 215 W. Tulare Ave. Visalia, CA, and conclude with a program at Garden Street Plaza in downtown Visalia?

Just relax?

Or watch the College Championship Game between Ohio State and Notre Dame? I am personally rooting for Ohio State because the Buckeyes beat the Ducks - so they must be the better team.

The LA fires are finally coming under control as people in the valley ponder if the same could happen here. The reaction locally to the fires is to strategize what to throw in the car and where to go if it does.

The bird flu is decimating the valley’s dairy cow population and caused a shortage of eggs. TC Voices will be having a special forum on how Bird Flu is affecting Tulare County on February 11, which is also the first day of the Tulare Ag Expo. Leaders from the Ag Industry and an epidemiologist will on the panel to explain the latest and answer questions.

In the news is a temporary change to the Lovers Lane interchange because traffic is backing up onto the highway causing a hazard. This is different than the ten year project to build a new interchange at road 148 that Dave Adalian wrote about in the last issue. Mr. Adalian gives the details in this week's issue about the provisional change.

Former Assembly Member Devon Mathis has been active on social media talking about his new business, Azimuth PR. Catherine Doe writes how Mr. Mathis has translated his time in the legislature to continue serving the Valley through his new business.

Don’t miss all the Ag, Education and Entertainment news in this week’s issue of the Valley Voice!

One in eight US residents lives in California.
With just over 39 million people (according to July 2024 estimates), California is the nation’s most populous state—its population is much larger than that of second-place Texas (31.3 million) and third-place Florida (23.4 million).

After three years of declines, California’s population increased in 2024. While growth has slowed dramatically over the past quarter century, California’s increasingly diverse population is still significantly larger than that of any other US state.
