Garden-Door Press is an Ithaca, NY-based publisher of experimental poetry and hybrid writing Its two gardeners are Kina Viola and Marty Cain.

Garden-Door Press is a new micro-press currently growing in Ithaca, NY. It makes chapbooks and broadsides. It believes in process, in excess and overgrowth, in homegrown language watered by tears of the neighbors, in elevated beds that destroy property values. It believes in the DIY ethic. It believes in ruralness. It believes in artifice, in hands and the handmade, but also in the internet and it

s fragmented power. It refuses to divorce affect from intellect, and is interested in experimental aesthetics that foreground the BODY, IDENTITY, and DELPHIC MESSINESS.

We’re super excited to announce our first release of 2025–RATTLE RIB, a downloadable e-chapbook by Tim Earley. All proceeds from sales of this book will go towards Rural Organizing and Resistance in western NC. In this work, Tim commingles the language of trauma and ecstasy—Mountain Dew, death, Romanticism, Satan, legions of bears—to transmute memory into oracular sound.

This past weekend in Ithaca we got to see SISSY enter the world! Canese gave a terrific performance, as did Spencer Williams and local folk-punk legends Motherwort, and we also got vegan stew and a paper making demo led by Laura Rowley and Adam Bryant. Endless gratitude to and everyone who came out!!! We had so much fun!

Featuring readings from Canese and Spencer Williams, jamz from Motherwort, & communal stew and papermaking. SAVE THE DATE, UPSTATE FOLKS!!!

For the foreseeable future, we’ll be donating our share of sales of Evan Gray’s THICKETS SWAMPED IN FENCE-COATED BRIARS to , a western North Carolina–based organization providing relief and establishing mutual aid hubs in the wake of Hurricane Helene. GDP would be nothing without the numerous Appalachian poets and thinkers who have influenced us, and our hearts are with the communities affected by the hurricane.
