Restorative justice processes have been used by Indigenous communities for centuries to strengthen interpersonal relationships, repair harm, and build trust. As it has been Westernized over the past two decades, restorative justice has proven effective in schools to reduce student misbehavior and suspensions. In this article, Victoria Lee argues that all public schools in New York should use restorative justice practices to respond to conflict and rebuild community in schools while dealing with COVID-19 and other stressors.
