Heated Forest Park School Board Session: February 2024

Jeremy here, with a deep news cut, this time out of Crystal Falls. On Monday, February 26th of 2024, over 50 people showed up to voice their concerns to the Forest Park School Board at their monthly meeting. The previous meeting had also been contentious, and this one continued the trend, including the display of signage displaying alleged verbal misconduct by members of Forest Park. A number of converging issues seem to have led up to this controversy, and thus what occurred at this meeting; these include varsity basketball coach Jason Price's conduct and suspension, allegations of bullying among female student athletes and athletic personnel at Forest Park, social partisanship within the community, and other grievances. Unlike other outlets, we shall broadcast the full segment here for community consideration. Meeting observations: the majority of the people who attended this meeting appeared to be find present conditions at Forest Park to be unfavorable. The board opened with various responses to standing grievances before allowing public comment. Board Member Troy Margoni was not present during the meeting. Many who spoke believed that social conditions deteriorated at Forest Park rapidly over the course of 2023. As we cannot control who watches the video, we have had to blur out those signs with aggressive language towards the end of the video. Work and family-safer reproductions of the signs are as follows: About 21 minutes into the video, a sign was held up saying "What the f*** - FP Teacher". The stated context is that a teacher at the school was said to have used this language in a hostile late night personal phone call. Forty-five seconds later, another sign is displayed, which says, "I don't give a s*** what the kids say - School Board Member". This sign is held up again a few moments later. The context was that the statement said to have been uttered at an earlier meeting, and it was said that there was proof of this, though this was disputed from t

820 Cayuga Explosion, Iron River, MI: Feburary 10th, 2024

Jeremy here, with another update regarding the house explosion in Iron River on Saturday evening. We got a hold of a lot of footage from immediately before and after the explosion...and the explosion itself, which we are now sharing here. The quality here is 4K and originally from the uncompressed source files. The video will play twice by design; the first time at the speed it actually happened, and the second time slowed down to 20% normal. As far as the time stamp, it is in Mountain Time and thus an hour slow. Points of note, main one being the speed of the explosion. Between 9:17PM and zero seconds, and 9:17PM and four seconds, the house goes from "standing" to "destroyed". Also note the bright flash coming from the window a split-second before the house is consumed, from what I have been told is the kitchen. Finally, note that the street is relatively clear of debris at the end of this clip, after the explosion. The footage I have on hand continues about one minute later from this point, and shows a very dirty street resembling what I filmed and shared here from Sunday. Indicates the force of the explosion was so intense, that it propelled boards and other heavy debris in the air for several seconds, before coming to rest. Iron River Explosion Aftermath: Feburary 10th-11th, 2024

Jeremy here, with footage of the aftermath of the explosion that occurred at 820 Cayuga Street in Iron River, which happened about 9:30PM Saturday evening. The blast was audibly perceived over a wide area. The structure that used to be there has been completely demolished, and an 80-year-old man that was inside the structure died as a result of the explosion. The Iron River Police Department and the Michigan State Police are on scene and investigating presently. Feel free to get a hold of us, if you have any tips or footage you’d like to share.

2023 Forest Park Hall of Fame

On November 4th, Forest Park out in Crystal Falls held their annual Hall of Fame ceremony. Coach Dick Mettlach, Don Boulanger, and Barb Trevarton were all inducted that evening. And this time WIKB News Director Jeremy Johnson came with a portable recording suite to get live footage of the ceremony.
