The VII Foundation, Daily Iowan Documentary Workshop, and University of Iowa SJMC present, USA 3.0. Politics in the United States – forever intertwined with religion, culture, and actual governing – is at another inflection point that will dramatically impact the country going forward for years to come. To recognize this point, the visual journalists of the VII Foundation and their colleagues at the VII Community have been documenting the USA over the last several years. In this world of political division and divisiveness, USA 3.0 captures the struggles and serenity of the ever-changing temperatures of the United States political landscape.

How do technological revolutions shape the rise and fall of great powers? 🌍💡

Join us for “Technology and the Rise of Great Powers” with Jeffrey Ding, PhD, as he discusses how technological advances—past and present—reshape global competition.

Drawing on historical case studies and statistical analysis, Ding challenges the idea that being first to innovate determines dominance. Instead, he highlights how nations succeed by adapting and scaling technologies across their economies.

📖 Ding’s new book applies this framework to U.S.-China competition in AI, offering insights into the strategies both nations can adopt to stay ahead.

Professor David Dowling and PhD candidate Javie Ssozi were published in Communication, Culture, and Critique for their article, "Defying Uganda’s morality police: the grammar of social media protest images." This research explores how folks protested on social media against Uganda's 2014 Anti-Pornography Act, which regulated women's attire. Through critical discourse analysis (CDA) relevant to communication through images, findings reveal how the circulation of protest images online shapes public opinion and legislative outcomes on contested issues such as s*x, morality, and women’s rights.
