Now in its 18th year, the Champions of Diversity Awards celebrate individuals and organizations across multiple industries who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion. This annual event brings together a diverse group of leaders and influencers to recognize those making a profound impact on their communities through their dedication to equity.
“I am extremely excited to continue the Champions of Diversity tradition,” said Robert Shegog, president and CEO of Recorder Media Group. “This year will be our biggest celebration yet. The growth of Champions of Diversity is a direct result of the community’s increasing recognition of the importance of diversity and inclusion in every aspect of life. Yolanda Renee King (1)
Yolanda Renee King was the special guest speaker at the IndyPL Fall Fest on Nov. 16.
King comes from a long line of activists as the only grandchild of Dr. Marin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King. Her parents are Martin Luther King, III and Arndrea Waters King.
“I think it’s really timely that we have King here today,” IndyPL’s Public Relations Manager Keshia McEntire said. “We’re really excited to have her here and encouraging the young people to continue that dream forward.”
Indy’s own Anais Briscoe-Beouy was the moderator for King’s talk at Fall Fest. Briscoe-Beouy is a local outspoken youth advocate, poet and the Regional Scholastic Writing Award winner.
“I’m really honored that I get to speak with her and ask some questions, especially with her being another youth,” Briscoe-Beouy said. “There’s so many of us, but so (few) of us get the connections to share our voices.”
McEntire said the goal of the Fall Fest is to give youth the opportunity to share their gifts with the community. Each year they bring in a role model for the youth to look up to.
King’s message at this year’s event was about courage. As a young activist in her own right, she is a nationally renowned speaker on issues like gun violence, climate change, women’s rights, discrimination and education reform. She is also the author of a children’s book called, “We Dream a World,” which was inspired by her grandparents.

Key Bank, Edna Martin
More than three dozen volunteers from KeyBank and the Edna Martin Christian Center teamed up to pack 10,000 meals to fight hunger in Indianapolis.
The event gathered volunteers for two hours to weigh, pack and sort meals with Million Meal Movement, an Indianapolis company dedicated to feeding the hungry and teaching the importance of volunteerism.
Founded by Dan and Nancy Hintz in 2007, the Million Meal Movement has packed over 36 million meals for those in need. Each pack consists of vitamins and minerals, dried vegetables, soy protein and rice. More than 6 million Hoosier families have benefited from their service since their founding.

Nancy Hintz spoke to the volunteers before they started packing the meals.
“The need is so great, and we know that we're going to be addressing that need,” Hintz said. “I really appreciate (the volunteers) being here today and partnering with us.” #news #indy
