The 2000 year old skull of a Peruvian warrior was found to have been fused together with metal in one of the world"s oldest examples of advanced surgery, according to a museum.

Museum of Osteology in Oklahoma says the skull, which is in its collection, is reported to have been that of a man who was injured during battle before having some of the earliest forms of surgery to implant a piece of metal in his head to repair the fracture.

Modern researchers have found skeletons at Pompeii that might indicate the social status of those who perished. In November 2020, archaeologists found the remains of two men inside a side room of a cryptoporticus (a covered gallery) below a villa at the excavation site Civita Guiliana just northwest of Pompeii. One skeleton, of a young man about 18 to 25 years old, revealed โ€œa series of vertebral compressions, unusual in a young man of his age,โ€ suggesting that he had been doing hard labor and could have been an enslaved person. The second man, thought to be from 30 to 40 years old, was found with the remains of intricate clothing, including a tunic and mantle made of wool, that suggest he could have been a wealthy man.
A group of 54 bodies found in the basement storeroom of an agricultural depot is also of interest. Although the victims hunkered down together in the space, they also arranged themselves along clearly divided lines. On one side of the room, the bodies were loaded with gold, jewels, and other signs of wealth. On the other, the people had no possessions. Although scientists aren"t certain about what this means, there are several possible explanations for the arrangement. Some people could"ve picked up their possessions and tried to run from the disaster. Or maybe half of the people in the room were criminals who stole things on their way to hide. But it"s also possible the people arranged themselves according to social status.

Perfume bottle in the shape of a hes-vase inlaid with the figure of a princess

New Kingdom, Amarna Period

ca. 1353โ€“1336 B.C.

The shape of this perfume bottle imitates that of a ritual vessel used for water libations. Inlaid on its side is a marvel of lapidary skill-a little Amarna princess standing on a blossom of the blue lotus, a species that opens anew each morning with the rising sun. For an Egyptian, the child and the flower would have been a powerful image of rebirth and rejuvenation.

Virtual Tour (360 photo) Tomb of Seti I.
This is a roughly square chamber with two rows of two pillars flanking the central axis. From the descent, the central tomb axis is displaced to the left (southeast). The left (southeast) side of the chamber is divided into three registers decorated with the fourth division (P)/fifth hour (H) of the Book of Gates. One scene represents the four "races" of mankind, for the first time in this composition differentiated by their physical characteristics. The right (northwest) side of the chamber is similarly divided into three registers and is decorated with the fifth division (P)/sixth hour (H) of the Book of Gates. On the rear (southwest) wall, the king is presented to Osiris and Hathor by Horus.

The handle of the hunting sword of Maximilian III Joseph, Prince-Elector of Bavaria (1745 - 1777).

Carved from ivory, a lion sits atop the handle holding a crescent moon, likely alluding to recent European victories over the Ottoman Empire.
