Alexa Quezada is a master’s student studying English. She also received her bachelor’s from IUPUI, having majored in Literature and minored in Creative Writing, and joined genesis during her undergraduate career. Between undergrad and grad school, this year will be Alexa’s sixth as an Editor and fourth as a Senior Editor! She loves reading fiction—especially science fiction and graphic novels—but writes mostly poetry. Alexa has been published in genesis, Butler’s Manuscripts, and Texas Tech’s Iron Horse Literary Review. In between classes, genesis, working at the University Writing Center, and running the English Club, she can often be found on the fifth floor of Cavanaugh, writing. Her favorite book is whatever she’s read most recently (currently Nimona), and her music tastes oscillate between a ca****la and classic rock. When she can find the time, Alexa knits, paints, plays the Sims, and gleefully overanalyzes children’s media.

✨✨
As a life-long wordnerd and an English major, with a focus in editing and publication, there has been no better opportunity he could have asked for in the last leg of his journey through higher education than working among the genesis team these past few years. With a passion for anything and everything literary, there isn’t a genre of fiction out there that he hasn’t yet delved down a rabbit hole to explore: high fantasy and epic sci-fi, urban romantasy and comfy Lit-RPG, cosmic horror and pseudo-historical drama, and even a few nonfiction pieces here and there to keep things spicy, Xander reads and writes it all. And when he’s not listening to audiobooks or actual plays from Dimension 20, he’s recently been jamming out to the EPIC Concept Album by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. The only thing he could think to ask for would be more submissions from any and all, because to his mind, there is absolutely no such thing as “too much to read.”

Eli Witham is a senior majoring in Creative Writing and double minoring in Sociology and English Literature. This is his third year on staff and second year as one of the two Managing Editors of genesis. While he’s sad that this is his last year working with his staff, he cannot be more proud of the work they’ve created or more excited for the final magazine he will produce. In his free time, Eli enjoys doing nothing other than watching TikToks or playing The Sims. However, if you catch him on a productive day, he’ll most likely be working on ideas for his latest fiction story while rocking out to his favorite playlist (which is way too long). His current favorite song from the aforementioned playlist is Naked in Manhattan by Chappell Roan.

Alicia Langdon is a junior studying English Creative Writing with minors in Psychology and Literature; she will be graduating in Fall 2025. This is actually her first year as an editor on the genesis staff, and she is super excited to see your submissions! She absolutely loves to read anything horror, dystopian, or psychologically thrilling. Though, when she is not reading, she is working as a Starbucks manager, crocheting, spending way too many hours on Animal Crossing, or blaring music somewhere. Some other things that really inspire her are art from impressionist artist Oscar “Claude” Monet and lyrics written by singer-songwriter Melanie Martinez!

Alec Jarvis is a senior at IU Indianapolis studying Creative Writing. He is stoked for his second year on the genesis staff as a Senior Editor. He cannot wait to see all the art and creativity that is very much alive on campus! He loves reading and writing any and all things Speculative Fiction. From fantasy to science fiction to ghost stories, he loves it all. Earlier this year, Alec had his debut publication—a Halloween short story entitled “Tricks and Treats at Sunset Hill”—which won Best of Prose in Butler University’s literature and art magazine Manuscripts! While he’s not writing, editing for genesis, or in class, you can find him teaching Taekwondo, playing disc golf, running the most dramatic Dungeons & Dragons games you’ve ever seen in your life, or spending an absurd amount of money on Panda Express.

Maggie Hoppel is a sophomore at IU Indianapolis majoring in Creative Writing and Communications with a minor in graphic design. This is her first year editing for genesis, and she absolutely loves getting to read the amazing creative work submitted by IUI students. Her hobbies include quilting, dog training, and telling ChatGPT to rewrite her angsty high school poetry into standup comedy routines. Her current music faves are Sierra Ferrell, Finneas, and Chappell Roan. She’s excited to laugh and cry with you as submissions continue and hopes you enjoy reading the final issue!

✨✨
Siren Hand is a senior at IU-Indy studying Creative Writing and minoring in Medical Sociology. They rededicated themself to both the writing craft and college after nine-some years in the army, aiming to specialize in poetic & narrative therapy for veteran communities. Fascinated with the publication process, they joined the staff of genesis after first publishing in the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 issues. This issue, Siren’s most excited to work alongside a talented team of editors in support of people who took the chance to share their works. Siren misses globe hopping and likes “reading the real”; their favorite works are transportive poetry and creative nonfiction that confront real emotions, situations, and relationships— often by examining culture and world spiritualities. They like to write similarly; Siren’s poetry and essays have been published in The After Action Review, Thirteen Bridges Review, Southeastern Missouri State University Press, Middle West Press, ROCKPAPERPOEM, and others. Siren has two chapbooks (LIMINAL, 2019 and FLOW COSMIC STRING, 2024). At IU-Indianapolis, Siren also serves on the advisory board for Speculative Play and Just Futurities: a residency, teaching, and community engagement program imagining new futures focused on social justice.

In 2020, Siren & their partner Adam Co-founded Our Type Love, a typewriter-centered literary arts project that connects people with timeless creative tech. This means that nowadays, you might spot Siren fixing up museum typers around Indianapolis, churning out Poetry On Demand in support of the Writer’s Guild at Bloomington, helping kids type letters to Santa at Indianapolis International Airport for Holly Jolly Jetway, or hosting a type-in supporting literary festivals like PROOF Midwest Lit Fest. When not doing any of this, Siren is either buried in dogs or haunting a coffee shop, recharging their batteries.

Siren’s favorite song at the moment is “Pins & Needles” by MUTEMATH.  Ask them in five minutes, and it would probably be different.
