Good To The SOUL

Good To The SOUL Good to the SOUL is a social enterprise that energizes individuals and institutions to flourish.

Good to the SOUL addresses impediments to human flourishing that diminish the collective realization of good and ultimately lead to marginalization and mediocrity in individuals and organizations. We do this work through creating products, curating stories, convening experiences, and collaborating with others who are aligned with the "spirit of universal liberation."

We celebrate with our founder in this recognition of her leadership. We know how special she is and we are excited that Chi Chi Omega chose to spotlight her today!

We are thrilled to spotlight Sister Shonda Nicole Gladden. Shonda's leadership in the Indianapolis community is both inspiring and impactful.

Dr. Shonda Nicole Gladden has built a life of service in the community through humanitarian and social justice initiatives. She is the founder and CEO of Good to the SOUL, author of Becoming (c) 2016, and Ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. While impressive, her leadership doesn't stop there! She has been featured on NPR National, NPR Religion, and PBS Radio and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Faith in Indiana, the African American Legacy Fund of Indianapolis (AALFI), and The District Theatre. She serves as the Senior Associate Pastor at Broadway United Methodist Church

"In the words of Anna Julia Cooper, we need Black women in leadership because only the Black woman can say “when and where I enter, in the quiet, undisputed dignity of my womanhood, without violence and without suing or special patronage, then and there the whole…race enters with me.”

Shonda, we honor your leadership. 💚💕

Congratulations to Indy’s own Ebony Marie Chappel on this new opportunity! Can’t wait to see what becomes of her work.

We’re growing our team at ILNI! This summer, we brought on Ebony Chappel as market director after a hiring process that included input from a panel of Indianapolis residents. Ebony is an accomplished non-profit leader and award-winning multimedia journalist with years of experience in strategic communication and grassroots community work.
In her previous role as program and communications director at Leadership Indianapolis, Ebony led the organization’s rebrand, developed new programs, and expanded LI’s reach into grassroots communities. Previously, Ebony led statewide outreach efforts for Indiana Donor Network and served as editor of the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper and Indiana Minority Business Magazine. In 2022, she was named to the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Forty Under 40.
In her new role, Ebony will lead efforts to raise awareness of the initiative's work through events, partnerships, and other activities.
"What we’re doing with ILNI has been a dream mission of mine for many years. I cannot wait to impact local journalism and better serve our community through these efforts," Ebony said.

Thinking about the "Medicaid Unwind?" The nation is talking about it. Indianapolis area, come out on April 29th to learn how a group of local congregations are addressing it locally.

“A study that ranked the 100 largest metros in the country found Indianapolis to be among the worst 10 cities to live as a poor person.”

The gap in life expectancy between different zip codes in the Indianapolis metro area is nearly 17 years. That's a bigger gap than research from 2013 showed.
