DO NOT. I repeat. DO NOT MISS THIS S**T. members of destroyer destroyer and plagues. For Fans of: Everything that fu***ng rules.

It’s that time again! I’m back with another brand new album and this one is unlike anything I’ve done up to this point. I’ve been trying to capture a new release across all of my favorite genres, and it’s finally time for the grind! This one has been secretly percolating behind the scenes here for years, and I’m so pleased to get to showcase the brand new project from the craziest pair of WV alumni maybe ever. This whole release is just drenched in WV powerhouses and honestly its so good that this should be like, debuting on Deathwish or something, haha. This punches so far above its weight it isn’t even funny and it actually makes me uncomfortable with having to represent something this good! The next WV new release is Hereisaropegoodluck!

My favorite part of WV is using the platform to exalt the new bands of previous WV alumni, and this release is kind of the ultimate example of that. I’m going to try not to be too big of a meat rider on this, but it’s literally impossible when you’ve got the brand new project from some of your favorite musicians ever. You might know Michael Carroll from, uh, literally Destroyer Destroyer and if that doesn’t get you torqued I don’t know what will. It’s a two man power duo and in addition to Carroll holding down the instrumentation, you’ve got Brian Cole (of Debello band Plagues fame) bringing it up on vocals.

I’ll kind of start with he genre and tonal notes here before jumping in too deep on the members, history and context. I’ll try not to make this 15 paragraphs long but I have so much to say! At its core, this is a tech grind album, but its so much more. Old school composition and charm with the craziest in *current year* production standards. It’s truly an insane fusion of cultures. Its kind of like, Cult Leader if the songs were a minute long and all of the coldwave parts were like, feedback and soundscapes. It’s so vocal and drum forward, with this kind of ethereal shroud over the whole thing. You kind of zone in and out and every time you catch a little break, you realize you haven’t heard song composition and riffs like this since like, 2010. It’s got this noodle-sliding guitar work over this whole album that just sticks out in 2024 like crazy.

I know we take all the early WV titles for granted at this point, its so easy to forget what trailblazers DD, Robinson and those early Debello bands were. There’s a difference between playing guitar, having riffs and like, being Michael Carroll. It sounds so completely foreign in 2024 - its got this kind of slide/twang feel that feels totally original in 2024. Like we get so much Musi made baby people who have been so visibly influence by DD and the like, that it just feels insane to hear it from the man himself. Not that I want to keep comparing it to DD, but like, if you’re a guitar guy you know it was just *different* back then. Song structures have changed over the years, people just don’t write stuff that plays like this album anymore.

Its really hard to make a grind album this cohesive. Its so well intentioned and structured and really plays so deliberately. Every time you get thrown under the wildest blast you’ve ever heard, you get a little soundscape break. You start to feel relaxed, and then BOOM right back in to the most frantic guitar riffs you’ve ever heard. It has a little bit of a jangly quality at times, and even a few bass drops and breakdowns, haha. Such a dynamic album. I think it really showcases what an incredible instrumentalist that Michael is and that Destroyer Destroyer wasn’t a one-off, haha.

And I know I’ve been hammering the Carroll thing, but got damn does Brian bring an insanely dynamic vocal performance to this album as well. It would be so easy to just fry it out on this, but he shows a lot of ingenuity and restraint - he lets the music breathe when he needs to, and its littered with vocals styles without just being a weirdo vocal olympic thing. Just two dudes working in perfect harmony here!

As far as band members go, it almost feels like the third member is just Digital Ghost. I can’t really talk about the composition on this album without bringing up Digital Ghost (formerly Swamp Sound) who did the whole album. Michael and Brian flew out and recorded this whole thing in house, and the DG influence is more than apparent. It ha those signature drums and the production elevates this to such an insane level. Its such a treat to hear something with such old-school charm with this level of production. Immediately feels so big budget and modern, haha.

I wanted to bring a level of grandiosity to this, and I’m such a sucker for like, not metal artwork with a big metal logo. I was so fortunate to be able to get not one, not two, but FOUR giant paintings from Michal Lukasiewicz to use for this record. Just an insane amount of art packed in to this released and I can’t wait for you to get these in hand and explore all the detail! On top of that, Kai was Abel to draw up an insane logo, and put this whole thing together in such a compelling way. Honestly one of my favorite layouts and art presentations maybe ever. Obsessed with this.

It’s been such an honor and a privilege to get to work with Michael and Brian on this over the past few years. It’s been flights to the studio, countless group chats, drafts and drafts and drafts. They’ve put so much effort in to creating a modern classic and everyone involved has put so much care in to the final presentation. I know you’re going to love it! NO ONE is making grind like this in 2024!

Preorders go live July 12th at 1:00pm CST. They will be open for two weeks! This will also have a open PVC preorder. And as a fun treat, the /100 handmade will be the band variant - they’ll be bringing them out to shows! Stay tuned for that - HIARGL is a live band so catch them soon playing some shows!

Honestly, I think there is a big potential that this could end up ebbing a lot of people’s AOTY. If you’re an OG WV fan, this is the new release for you. If you’re a deathcore guy, I think the production is an easy “in” to get in to a grind album like this. Its grind and so so much more. Please tell a friend! Share a post! Buy a copy! Thanks again!

Preorders go be on July 12th at 1:00pm CSt. See you there!

I’ve finally done it. Potentially the highlight of my time here at WV. I remember after The Heartland dropped in 2019 and I decided I was “going do this label thing that repressed old classics” I reached out to The Boy Will Drown about doing a record. It was met with tepid optimism - “hey man, maybe!”. Well, in true punisher piece of s**t fashion, I kept messaging every 6 months. For 5 years. Every interaction grew warmer. Details started being discussed. Finally we had a deal. It’s 2024, a few month away from WV’s 5th anniversary, and The Boy Will Drown is available on vinyl for the first and only time. What a dream come true! Ah!!!!

If you’ve ever seen make talk in a video, or make a “dream press” list, TBWD was on it. I think “Fe**sh” might be the best album of all time for me. Like, not even with in a specific genre constraint - just straight up the best album ever made. I know it didn’t set the world ablaze when it dropped, but tragically I just think TBWD was too ahead of their time. And this material, their inaugural self titled, is what started it all.

I’ll try not to wax poetic about Fe**sh too much on this, as I’m not releasing Fe**sh, BUT I think it’s a huge piece of context that makes this material so important. I love nothing more than a band who establishes their sound on an insane EP, and then goes to the studio and creates a polished, beautiful debut full-length that re-records all the songs from that EP. See Oceano and Chelsea Grin. Like, the perfect MySpace one-two punch. Almost all my favorite bands have a discography that follows this kind of formula. It was just how you did it back then and I’m so thankful for it.

But f course, my first expose to TBWD WAS this material. “Dead Girls” was plastered across every breakdown video in the world. The pigsqueals were a staple of the entire scene. TBWD and like, We Are The End were the ones to watch. And wouldn’t you know it, TBWD got on Earache and dropped a monster LP to little fanfare. It was too technical. Too thrash. Too clean. No pig squeals. It was surgical and devoid of any “fun” like the EP. You mean to tell me these guys made a “serious” album??? Those as****es! They did a reverse Irish Front haha. An like, NO one cared. A crime. They dropped the worlds best album and faded away, leaving behind a cohort of TBWD meat riders yelling at Earache to press fe**sh. For some reason that will never happen, so I present the next best thing!

You see, I’ve done it again. Here I go talking about Fe**sh. I promise I’ll keep it to the self titled! Like, its just all copyright at this pint though because if you know TBWD, you know this EP changed the world! It was one of the “greats” that you showed your friends to prove how scene you were. It was the blurry thumbnail you had on your iPod when you queued up “Dead Girls” on your “Pigsqueals and Breakdowns” playlist. This EP broke so many conventions, and really set the stage for a very specific brand of deathcore. No one was tighter or more technical. It was this back and forth mathy/technical noodling overtop of the craziest vocals you’d ever heard. Everyone was going for the biggest and baddest, but TBWD was solidly planted in their lane, proving that scene kids could riff with the best of them.

Its a little rough around the edges, but as so much charm. It’s the most personal release I’ve done at WV here, and I’m so happy this finally gets to see the light of day. It’s too important of an EP to be trapped in YouTube rip hell. Th best bass riffs in history. Th best drums in history. The best riffs in history. The best vocals. Like, unironically the total package. This is a time capsule of an EP that just takes me back to being in High School and being in s**tty bands. It takes me back to scrolling The Gauntlet and The Last Disaster. To the fun times of doing Total Deathcore. Everyone has their mid-2000s EP they’ll defend to the death, and this one is mine! I just can’t believe it!

Historical context aside, this release is so sick because the band was able to find the original engineer exports from the recording of this. We took those, and once again Zach Sebastian over at Third Eye Studios was able to really bring a lot more out of these recordings. This material sounds INSANE. I promise you’ve never noticed the BASSLINES on the YouTube videos you’ve been watching haha. IT’s literally a whole new EP and just sound incredible. So much detail that had previously been stripped away from ripping a rip of a rip. Truly a preservation effort on this material.
Art was handled by none other than Thomas Bates lmao. Fun fact, he was IN The Boy Will Drown before being a world renowned tattoo and album art phenom haha. And if you’re looking to scratch that TBWD itch in 2024, also check out Vast Slug, which is the new band from Ed Bell! Yay!

As usual, this will be over the top expensive. Believe it or not, they weren’t left with the best impression of the “music biz” after Fe**sh, so I had to overcome a lot of resistance about the model and everything thats going on here. Price reflects one of the largest payouts to a WV band ever - and they’ve earned every penny. Like thats the WV advantage - if not for what I could charge, I’m not sure this would have seen the light of day otherwise. I know its a big ask on all of this, but TBWD is my passion project within my passion project. It’s all coming together! As they say - don’t wake me up from this dream I had. This dream where I got to put out TBWD and everyone bought it, haha.

Is there a title bonus treat on the B-side as well? Who’s to say!

This one time pressing is 300 copies, spread out over five variants:

50 We Take the “Sig” out of Signature Series (Wax Vessel Signature)
50 Multi-Carting’s Only Funny When it Fails (Wax Vessel Signature)

50 Dead Girls Don’t Buy Sigs (Wax Vessel Signature)
100 In Place of Fallen Sigs (Wax Vessel Handmade)

Orders go live on Friday, may 10th at 1:00pm CST.

Even though this is a preorder for some *band specific reasons* this order was placed a few months ago! It’ll be short! If you saw on Nightmarer, it was about 7 months door to door. This one should be like, 4 months? Maybe less? It’ll be quick, and I promise I’ll be calling in every Wax Mage favor I can muster to make this a killer set!

Thanks again to Ed for dealign with me for five years on this. An absolute dream come true to finally put this out! I hope you and the rest of the guy love it!

This record is packed with raw power and chaotic energy while leaving room to breathe simultaneously. The impact of the feedback between the onslaughts of violent tone is absolutely paramount. I am very stoked to have this band as a part of our family.
