The latest version of The Lancaster 2040 Comprehensive Plan has been released with the opportunity to provide feedback in upcoming public input meetings (Jan. 30th at 6 p.m., Del Webb Library)
Included in the plan is the suggestion that Indian Land be incorporated as a way to address the Panhandle’s demand on infrastructure, public safety, and schools. As of June 1, Lancaster County Public Safety Communications is accepting text-to-911 service inside the boundaries of Lancaster County.
Mobile phone users will have the ability to send a text of up to 140 characters to 9-1-1 in case of an emergency.
Director of Lancaster Public Safety Communications 911 Robert Purser shares that all phone carriers have been tested and are able to use this feature. He says in the first message, to send your location and type of emergency with simple words, no abbreviations. Photos and videos are not available at this time. Calls are still the best and fastest way. Call if you can, text if you can't.
