The Idaho Falls Regional Airport recently introduced a new program for the discreetly disabled. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program now allows travelers with non-visible disabilities to share their need for additional assistance discreetly.

“At the Idaho Falls Regional Airport, we always want to ensure accessibility to travel for everyone,” noted Idaho Falls Regional Airport Director Ian Turner in a recent announcement. “Sometimes traveling with a disability can be daunting and breaking the barrier of needing to speak up and ask for help will make the difference for many people in our community.”

A local jump rope team may be one of the most famous and competitive athletic sports teams you’ve never (or barely) heard of.

Jumpin’ Jazz, the original name of the local jump rope team (changed to Proform Airborne in 1995), was started in 1988 by Connie Dunn, who “needed something to do,” and was joined a couple of years later by Shirley Orme. The two started a team that today is known worldwide for its competitiveness and amazing skills with jump ropes that has produced numerous U.S. and world champions.

Read Proform Airborne's full story in the upcoming issue of Idaho Falls Magazine.

In business for more than a century, the family-owned and run company is now one of the largest music retailers in the West, distributing to 1,500 music stores, offering 80,000 titles of print music, and selling both brand-name and private-brand instruments and accessories. And that’s quite a contrast from how it started.

In 1911, Horace Chesbro needed income to repay debts from his failed piano store in Seattle, Washington. He and his wife set their sights on bringing music to the quiet frontier farmland of Idaho’s Snake River Valley.

Read about the history of Chesbro Music Company and the family that brought music to East Idaho on www.idahofallsmagazine.com.

Searching for a local winter hotspot but hesitant to hit the slopes? Take a drive to the St. Anthony Sand Dunes just north of Rexburg and don’t forget your sled!

When dusted with snow, these dunes are perfect for catching speed and they’re a free resource to the public. Sledding safety is a must and the St. Anthony Sand Dunes are no exception. Some dunes may be too steep or have exposed rock at the bottom, so check your surroundings before hopping onto your sled.
