Alan Binstock, a well-known Mount Rainier architect and sculptor who was once named Hyattsville Wire, readers’ favorite local artist, died on Oct. 29 of complications from surgery. He was 77. Hyattsville has begun an upgrade of The Spot park near the Arts District located at 4505 Hamilton St., just south of the Yes! Organic Market parking lot along the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail. The Spot started in 2021 as an informal pop-up park where community events and concerts could be held. It was the brainchild of SoHy Co-op, a nonprofit group that helps support local businesses, with a grant made possible by Maryland Milestones (Anacostia Trails Heritage Area). https://bit.ly/4hMRgJy -

Larry Hogan and former Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, state judges, and a ballot measure that would enshrine reproductive rights in the state constitution. Located in Hyattsville on Gallatin Street between the SoHy Arts Building entrance and Gremlins Tattoo Lounge, the Peep Show gallery showcases a single artist for a month or two. The D.C.-based nonprofit has already planted hundreds of trees through its work with the city of Hyattsville, including a similar volunteer event in May at the Duck Pond.
