The building housing Dreamland Recording Studio was originally built in 1896 as St. John’s Church outside of Woodstock in West Hurley, New York. Almost a century later in 1986, owner Joel Bluestein converted the church into a state of the art recording studio.
From the late 1980’s through the early 2000’s, Dreamland played host to numerous bands looking to record in a unique space. Dreamland captured the recordings ranging from The B-52s “Love Shack to the 10,000 Maniacs and Suzanne Vega, Bobby McFerrin with Yo Yo Ma, Pat Metheny and Herbie Hancock.
Then Dreamland shut it’s doors in 2005 until drummer Jerry Marotta convinced Joel to reopen the legendary studio. Since that time musicians from all walks of life have made the pilgrimage to Dreamland to take advantage of it’s open space, analog audio, and vintage instruments as well as up to date digital recording equipment.
From Bob Weir to Bokanté, Lake Street Dive to Living Colour, Joey Alexander to Sawyer Fredericks Dreamland continues it’s legacy of being one of the world’s premier recording studios.
