❄️ Frozen Warrior: Bison at 35 Below Zero! 🤯 Yellowstone Survival

The sight of a Bison standing in the brutal cold of Yellowstone National Park at temperatures as low as 35 below zero (Fahrenheit or Celsius, which are nearly the same at this extreme) is a powerful image of sheer resilience. Far from miserable, these magnificent animals are perfectly engineered to thrive in the harshest winter conditions.

ARCTIC CHILL ABOUT A WEEK AWAY:
A powerful surge of arctic air is expected to spill into the eastern half of the U.S. within the next 7–10 days.

For North Alabama, temperatures are projected to plunge into the teens on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning (December 13, 14, and 15). This kind of cold is uncommon for December, and new record lows are on the table if the current trends hold.

METEOROLOGICAL WINTER BEGINS TOMORROW

Meteorological winter follows the calendar and the yearly temperature cycle. It always runs from December 1 through February 28/29, which makes it easier to compare temperatures, snowfall, and seasonal trends from year to year.

Astronomical winter is tied to the Earth’s position relative to the sun. It begins on the winter solstice — December 21 this year — and ends on the spring equinox on March 20, 2026.

Hubble captured a view fit for a Thanksgiving feast: The Calabash Nebula! Calabashes are a type of gourd, and just like this dying star, they're lopsided in shape.
In this image, a star has heated up and expanded in size, rapidly shedding its outer layers of gas and dust. This dense material, shown in yellow-orange, streams away at about 600,000 miles per hour in two opposing directions.
