WV Division of Highways sets guidelines for food trucks at rest areas.

In response to the United States Department of Transportation suspending its prohibition on food trucks at federally funded rest areas, the West Virginia Division of Highways has set guidelines allowing for food trucks at rest areas as a temporary measure to ease the burden on truck drivers during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Randolph Sheppard Program, which provides opportunities for people who are blind or deaf, will continue to offer snacks in the vending machines at the rest areas and that valuable service is available as well. Food vendors will be limited to two per rest area – in addition to the Randolph Sheppard Program – and those meeting the requirements on the application will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications, which are available on the WVDOT's website, should be submitted to [email protected] and the District Engineer for each rest area location.

For more information about COVID-19 prevention and more, call the State’s toll-free hotline at 1-800-887-4304 or visit Coronavirus.wv.gov.

The West Virginia Department of Transportation asks you to please use caution when driving in work zones — Just. Slow. Down. It’s everybody’s responsibility. Drivers should download the WV 511 app for regular traffic and road work updates or go to the website at www.WV511.org. For information about the project, visit Drive Forward WV or the WVDOT Facebook.

Hot meals are coming for truckers!

Food trucks temporarily allowed at ODOT rest areas
Mobile food vendors will help provide meals to truck drivers and other essential travelers

To address one of the biggest challenges truck drivers face, access to a hot meal, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is temporarily opening the state's 86 rest areas to food trucks.

Federal regulations prohibit commercial activity at rest areas, with limited exceptions. Last week, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced they would temporarily suspend enforcement of those regulations.

Mobile food vendors must download a permit from the ODOT website and display it at all times while operating. They must also abide by state and local food service regulations as well as social distancing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ensure the safety and health of staff and customers. The Ohio State Highway Patrol will regularly monitor rest areas to enforce compliance with all Ohio laws and regulations by the commercial food truck vendors who elect to set up operations.

It is important to note that this temporary permission for food truck vendors to set up in ODOT-administered rest areas is intended to help provide options for truck drivers, not to replace the goods and services offered by retail operations along Ohio’s interstates.

Download and print the free food truck permit at this link.

Summer Motion festival postponed until 2021

ASHLAND, Ky. – For the betterment and safety of the community, Summer Motion’s committee is postponing this summer’s festival.

The coronavirus impact into the summer months is unknown and elected officials have asked for no large gatherings. Not having the festival this summer seemed to be the only prudent option as everyone wrestles with the deadly pandemic.

First responder needs are better directed to the current emergency instead of special events.

The committee understands the economic punch the coronavirus has brought to our communities and wants to be fiscally responsible in relation to donation funding from sponsors. They can have it returned for their own needs or to donate to those in greatest aid from the coronavirus emergency or, if they choose, it can be used for the 2021 Summer Motion festival.

It is with much sadness that we postpone the festival for a year because of the light it shines and joy it brings to Ashland during the Fourth of July holidays. We are always thinking about the community and that continues with this decision.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the courageous health care workers, first responders and those who experienced the worst from this outbreak.

The Summer Motion committee will be meeting as soon as possible to begin plans for the best and biggest festival possible in 2021. We look forward to seeing the Ashland River Port full of life, fun and music next summer.

Broadway’s Waitress has been postponed to Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 8 p.m. Due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, organizers have postponed Waitress originally scheduled for Monday, April 27th at 8 p.m. to Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 8 p.m.

“After careful consideration, the decision to postpone the production of Waitress was made for the safety of all involved, including the cast and crew of the show, in addition to the patrons who have been excited for this show all season,” said Penny Watkins, Executive Director of the Marshall Artists Series. “By moving the date to the fall, this will allow time to deal with the constantly changing landscape and the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Tickets for WAITRESS are on sale now. Call the Marshall Artists box office at 304-696-6656 or order online at www.ticketmaster.com. All tickets for the original date will be honored at the rescheduled date.

Buy tickets concerts, sports, arts, theater and other events. Find more tickets in store than ever before directly from venue and other fans with the guarantee the seat you buy is the seat you get only at Ticketmaster.com.
