The VIP Coach

We all need a coach to bring forth our bring our intellectual, emotional, and spiritual into balance. I've been coaching for over 17 years, 20,000 hours to some of the best entrepreneurs and sales pros on Earth, and they all have one challenge above them all that nobody would expect: The Excellence Trap. Success leaves bad lessons, leaving the person prisoner of their own machine. Either the thri

ll ride of so much growth leaves no time or think or plan, or they just can't reach anything essential. A sense of powerless, frustration, and doubt set's in, leading to a plateau of progress. Our VIP Coaching helps YOU the trapped entrepreneur, ready for a restorative process back to the joy of creating a dream, becoming a gifted boss with a world class team, and an enterprise that makes business look like fine art. But to get there, you need a wingman, some to stand toe to toe with you, and keep you honest, and on track. And if you're skilled enough to ask for help, and comfortable with being wrong, your children and your spouse will thank me for bringing you back to them. And the person you'll become by the end of your life will get out his report card and say, "I did it all." (This is double serious). An unlived life is a serious tragedy.

A Father's Path

That day when you became a father you were changed forever
A baby's eyes resets your faith and relights the wick of the heart
Nothing is greater than this

Before it was you and now it is other
And you about half the time you work at what you love
And the other half is growing into adulthood
Fathering has to do with accepting the half of things
Allowing renunciation of the other half
Accepting half a basket instead of a full basket

He who is truly a man just keeps walking
dragging his guts behind until the very end of time
To presence what is here without the unbending arm extended saying NO
Wounds do not slow you they moisten you
and open you to try another day

Receiving the father you have is to come home to grace
You see him when you light the lamp in your heart
He sits there behind the door
the eyebrows so heavy, the forehead so light
lonely in his whole body, waiting for you

Someone knocks on the door
You do not have time to dress
Dad wants us to go with him through the blowing and rainy streets, to the dark house

The order of things says it is his time to die
Die back to life and the wonder of things
Reclaim his wholeness
And remember his basic goodness by making you
And seeing you soar and fly higher

Something in you the father hungers again for risk like him
courting danger, going to the edge – even to the edge of death
And perhaps this is your place to take in his
To always be with you wherever you go
To be loved as you are, just as he does

Home is the nicest word there is
Home is where the heart is
Home lives in all of us, as a safe place to go and be who we are
To remember what brought us to fathering
To be wild again, and to be a little more dangerous once more
And to restore and reclaim what was lost in the happenings and dark hallways

A home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts
Even home is in Heaven
Perhaps you're just traveling through this world
Fathering until there isn't a body anymore
Just treasures of time in capsules of replays of this journey
to Find the father's path again and again

HOW TO BRING A TEAM TO GREATNESS:

Getting the wrong people off the bus

Get the right people in the right seats

Get them doing right things right

at the right time, as they keep getting better
at what they do, with a lab mentality, as they
never stop learning. and acknowledge grief
when change occurs.

What if you've created great career success, and yet you feel like you blew through the defining moments in your life---your wedding, your baby's birth, your most recent visit with your folks...what if it's all just a blur? What if the tempo of your ambition is in conflict with your deepest values? I put together a response to this question from a highly successful executive who recently had a big aha moment: I CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY!

Happiness is a choice.

A farmer had been leading his water buffalo to graze in the paddy fields and had tied a rope around the animal. The buffalo got spooked and started to run, but the farmer held tight to the rope. The buffalo was much stronger than the farmer; the rope became entangled, dragging the farmer. His finger was severed by the pulling rope and he sought medical aid from the monastery. The obvious lesson for everyone that morning was – when your water buffalo is on a rampage, let it go! You cannot stop a rampaging buffalo, so the wisest course is to get out of the way. After a while, the buffalo will stop running and then you can calmly walk after it, pick up the rope and lead it again. But don’t try this while it is out of control: let go.

We all have rampaging water buffalos in our lives from time to time: our son, partner, mother, boss, customers – when they are raging out of fear or anger, the wisest action is to do nothing. Let them come to a stop, and then deal with the drama. We also have water buffalos in our mind: the raging thoughts that won’t stop – don’t try to stop them when they are raging: wait for the moment of calm and then go pick up the rope and lead them skillfully.

Itzhak Perlman is one of the finest violinists alive today. Several years ago, Perlman agreed to attend a charity reception after one of his concerts in Vienna. Tickets for the champagne reception were sold for the equivalent of five hundred American dollars per guest.

At the reception, while the guests mingled, Itzhak Perlman stood in a roped-off area flanked by security guards. One by one the guests were led into the roped-off area and introduced to Perl-man. As one man entered the roped-off area, he stretched out his hand, shook hands with the violinist, and said, “Mr. Perlman, you were phenomenal tonight. Absolutely amazing.” Perlman smiled and thanked the man graciously for the compliment.

The man continued, “All my life I have had a great love of the violin, and I have heard every great living violinist, but I have never heard any-one play the violin as brilliantly as you did tonight.” Perlman smiled again but said nothing, and the man continued, “You know, Mr. Perlman, I would give my whole life to be able to play the violin like you did tonight.”

Perlman smiled once more and said, “I have.”

CONSIDER THIS
That is the difference. While some of us are sitting around letting the sand in the hourglass of life empty, thinking, I would give my whole life to be able to do that, or, I hope that happens to me one day, people like Itzhak Perlman are getting the job done. They are giving their whole lives to the magnificent and meaningful pursuit of their deepest dream, giving flesh to their deepest desire.

A humble boatman was once rowing a vain scholar across a river. Since it was a long journey, the scholar quickly grew bored and decided to make conversation to pass the time.

Choosing topics he found interesting, the scholar asked, “Boatman, have you ever studied mathematics or grammar?”

“No,” responded the boatman, “I’ve no use for them.”

“That’s a pity,” the Scholar sneered condescendingly. “You’ve wasted half your life. It’s useful to know them.”

The boatman was troubled but stayed silent.

Suddenly, the boat hit a sharp rock in the middle of the river.

The boatman exclaimed, “Pardon me, wise scholar but tell me, have you ever learned to swim?”

“No,” the scholar smirked, “I never learned. I immersed myself in academics.”

“Alas,” said the boatman, “then you’ve wasted all your life. The boat is sinking!”
