When an F0 tornado caused damage in the Hughesville area in 1994, the event literally blew the door in on Eli and sparked an

ongoing battle to learn and study these beautiful, yet terrifying monsters. Now in his 29th year of storm chasing, Eli provides local and national media outlets with video packages covering every type of weather related event(s) that occurs in and around Northcentral Pennsylvania, including in the states of New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and Ohio. As a National Media Storm Chaser/Stringer for LSM (Live Storms Media), he has provided video content that has appeared on The Weather Channel, ABC and Good Morning America, CBS, Fox News, AccuWeather and NBC. BOOM!

For almost 11 minutes, red and pink lit up the sky here in Eastern Lycoming County! Standing in the parking lot of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, the view is incredible and the night sounds (other than the gas well sounds) are calming and wonderful.

I have been set up for over 2 hours when, finally, at 11:21 PM my camera began picking up a bright, large area of reds and pinks stretching across and quite a ways up into the sky!

While clouds and a nearly full Harvest Moon have been bullies in my quest to capture the tonight, I have again been successful in seeing another beautiful Aurora display!

A couple days ago, a very strong X4.54 class solar flare that launched a CME (coronal mass ejection) partially towards Earth. Tonight we, as well as much of the world, are seeing the effects of that massive explosion from the Sun.

I hope you enjoy the below images! Feel free to share (just don't save the images and repost them) with your friends.

CME Detected!!!

Numbers are looking good for the potential for "camera only" aurora tonight!

I'm packing my gear and likely heading out to a dark location shortly! If I get any Northern lights images I'll be sure to share!

Yesterday I posted a video to my YouTube channel of the entire 9/11 Memorial Motorcycle Ride as it rode through Hughesville, PA.

While it's not weather related, I wanted to make sure that anyone who wanted to see the patriotic display to honor those lost during and after the terror attacks.

This video is the entire ride so it's quite long but I hope you enjoy it. The link for the video is in the comments below.

09/09/2024

I saw about a dozen funnels and two waterspouts during my chase to Lake Erie on Saturday! I made a video about my adventures!

After pouring through videos and photos, and talking with another chaser, Joshua Brinker, one of the funnels was indeed on the water! He viewed a fully condensed waterspout at the same time I did and it was the same one I saw from Raccoon Park, PA. I would have liked seeing on much, much closer but it was a tough day!

I woke up at 4am, was already packed but grabbed my cooler with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, water bottles and my camping stove to make coffee and hot tea, and hit the road. Stopped to get gas and headed for Lake Erie!

I got the the shore of Lake Erie at Avonia Beach around 10:45 AM. Multiple reports of waterspouts were made at first light along the Lake Erie shores (I saw these reports as I was driving and was kicking myself for needed sleep instead of getting up earlier). I pulled in, found a parking spot and with a couple cameras and my rain jacket, I headed down to the beach just as some strong cells were moving in off Lake Erie. Strong winds, large waves and rain were approaching and I saw 2 different funnels barely spin down from the clouds before dissipating. It began raining hard and got very windy as I got back to my car.

After these cells moved overhead, I moved South to Raccoon Park to intercept more cells. I walked around the beach and wow the wind was strong! The waves were 3'-5' high and crashing on the concrete breakers and the coastline. Beach erosion was happening with the heavy waves and rain. I watched a strong cell move in from Lake Erie and drop a strong funnel, condensed about 1/3 of the way to the waters surface. This funnel, as seen by Storm Chaser Joshua Brinker from Conneaut, OH and fully condensed and on the water, a waterspout, i just couldn't see the circulation thanks to rain and distance. Rain began wrapping around in front of the funnel so I quickly moved Northeast to Lake Erie Community Park where I could view this storm! The storm moved onshore near Erie Bluffs State Park, just to my West. I don't believe the waterspout was still down when it came onshore but it sure was windy!

I stayed on the bluff overlooking Lake Erie at Lake Erie Community Park, which was a really nice area and had beautiful views. After getting some more video, making a cup of coffee which was super hard in the wind, and having some sandwiches, I headed towards Conneaut, OH to try to get one last storm!

I pulled into Conneaut Township Park, right down on the beach parking lot and wow the wind! I walked around, found some cool rocks, saw a ton of birds and filmed the waves, a beautiful rainbow and the lighthouse. Conditions were really rough for filming but I made it work. I was filming when a wave hit the beach and pushed way up the sand, right where I was standing and bam, wet feet and shoes! Good thing I brought extra clothes and shoes, because this happens every time!

I then made my way up to the upper parking lot where the Gazebo at Conneaut Township Park is. It's an elevated position with incredible views for as far as the eye can see from SW towards Ashtabula, OH all the way Northeast towards Erie, PA. Josh and I sat in our vehicles and chatted about the day, watching several weak funnels dip down only to quickly wisp away. Conditions improved which, unfortunately for us storm chasers, meant that waterspouts were done! Josh left, then I plotted my 5 hour route home and got on the road!

I pulled into my garage a little before 1am. Took everything inside, started a load of laundry, grabbed a quick shower and went to bed, only to get up for church that morning!

While I didn't see any waterspouts close up, I did have a good time and was able to witness a dozen or so funnels and at least 2 if them being waterspouts. Plus, I found some cool rocks!

I had planned on live streaming on YouTube but cell reception was horrible right on the Lake. Turns out, Google Fi (my cell carrier) runs on T-Mobile towers and the cell coverage is awful for old phones that aren't 5G. My phone is an old phone (because phones are expensive). Anyway that's going to change soon so hopefully I'll have better service and better chances at streaming for all of you.

I put together a video of my adventure and it's live in YouTube right now! I would be grateful if you'd check it out, give it a like and even subscribe! Link for the video is in the comments.

I look forward to my next trip to Lake Erie!

This is crazy!

Check out the difference 100 miles makes between huge rainfall totals and drought conditions! An argument can be made that there is an even shorter difference between high totals and drought conditions between portions of Columbia, Luzerne and Wyoming Counties!

This image was compiled from rainfall data and made into a great graphic by our friends at the US National Weather Service State College PA office.

Where do you live in this image and does it match the totals?

Fall is here and colors have already started in Erie County near the lake shore! I tried getting pictures yesterday but between the rain and waterspouts, I was a little busy!

Speaking of leaves changing, the areas with heavy rain should start seeing the leaves change soon if not already, and it could be a very good leaf year!

Here are two photos of a just off shore from Racoon Park, PA just SW of Lake City at 1:24 PM! It started raining so I moved North to try and get a better view of it coming onshore but it either dissipated or was wrapped in rain! Was far enough off shore that I couldn't see spray. It's been very quiet weather-wise so I decided to dive headfirst into a cornfield. Ok, maybe not dive but I was on my back! Let me explain.

As Summer draws to a close and Fall sets in, the corn so many farmers planted back in Spring is almost ready for harvest!

I live in a beautiful part of Northcentral PA where corn fields cover the landscape like some famous painting! I've walked through corn fields before but today, I simply stepped into the first couple rows and looked up. I then sat down and got a couple pictures. This was my view!

The Sun was still bright in the sky but appeared to set fire the top of the stalks. It was really peaceful, even with the sounds of fall sports teams practicing in the background.

I hope you're having a great September so far!

Happy Fall everyone.

⚠️ It's been a pretty crazy 24-48 hours for many across our area of Central !

🌊 Torrential rains also caused widespread flash flooding, destroyed barns, homes and roads, especially in Juniata County! Up and down the Rt. 22 cooridor, upwards of 10" of rain (estimated by radar) fell overnight as thunderstorms barely drifted south! Unfortunately, reports are that several farm animals may have been lost in atleast one barn that collapsed as a result of flooding! If you live in an area hit hard from flooding, please post your images or videos in the comments below (again, just please say where it's from, no addresses though)!

🌩 Severe thunderstorms caused wind damage across numerous areas including Lock Haven and Mill Hall, south and East towards the Duncannon area. Several areas experienced severe thunderstorm warnings and even a few tornado warnings! Did you have any damage? Post your images and videos below (just please say where it's from, no addresses though)!

👀 As we look towards today, we hopefully will get a day to breath and prepare for another day of potentially severe thunderstorms, damaging wind gusts and torrential rain.

🟡 The Storm Prediction Center already has a Day 2 (Saturday) Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5, Yellow) from portions of , , , , , and up into . Damaging wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain are all possible. Dangerous lightning is likely, and even a tornado is possible! Stay .

🟢 The Weather Prediction Center has a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 4, Green) for Excessive Rainfall all across the region, and heavy rainfall could cause additional flooding across areas still trying to deal with the past few weeks of flooding impacts! Some areas could see an additional "1-3" of rain or more, especially where heavy thunderstorms hit!

Again, please share your photos and videos below, just make sure you tell us where they are from.

Also, if you know of communities that were hard hit that need donations, post as much info as we can down in the comments and see if we can get our all the help they need! Just like in Trout Run up into New York state, when we come together, we Americans can do amazing work, yes even you!

🚨 Numerous communities are experiencing flash flooding right now, including some in Sullivan County, Lycoming County, Snyder County, Union County, Luzerne County and Clinton, Centre, Mifflin, Juniata and Perry Counties!

Bright Green = Flood Advisory
Dark Red = Flash Flood Warning
Dark Green = Flood Watch

⛈️ Heavy thunderstorms are still dumping 1.5"-2"+ an hour rainfall rates from near Clearfield, PA South and East towards Harrisburg! Some areas could see horrific flash flooding with river flooding likely impacting the Juniata River along Rt. 22 from Lewistown all the way to the Susquehanna River at Duncannon, PA.

🌊 Expect flooding conditions on area creeks and streams, as well as water covering the roads in low-lying fields and water crossing the roads on steep hillsides! Flooding at night is extremely dangerous so please, if you don't have to go anywhere STAY HOME! If you are evacuating your home or place of work, do it in the safest manner possible or get to a 2nd floor or higher ground!

PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE INTO FLOOD WATER! Turn around, don't drown!

I got very lucky and watched a Great Egret flying over Muncy Creek near the intersection of Rt. 442 and Rt. 405 (known as "The Y" locally). I quickly turned onto Chippewa Road and parked, grabbed my camera and was able to snap a few (very fast) images of TWO different Great Egrets!!

Because they flew quickly, with bright sunlight behind them, over Muncy Creek. For how tough that was, the images came out pretty good!

I hope you enjoy them!
