Pilot Seuk Kim was transporting three dogs from a high-kill shelter in Georgia en route to shelter in Schoharie County to find them a new home when his plane crashed Nov. 24 near Windham.

He and one of the dogs was killed. But two of the dogs survived.

Federal investigators released a preliminary report Wednesday indicating the plane crash that killed an animal rescue pilot in November hit significant turbulence before crashing into the Catskill Mountains.

Preservationists and other advocates say the lighthouse is in danger of collapsing into the river because of stronger waves and currents that are deteriorating wood pilings beneath the foundation.
