Pilot Seuk Kim was transporting three dogs from a high-kill shelter in Georgia en route to shelter in Schoharie County to find them a new home when his plane crashed Nov. 24 near Windham.

He and one of the dogs was killed. But two of the dogs survived.

The Hudson-Athens Lighthouse has been selected for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers protection program, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Monday in the riverside village of Athens.

Preservationists and other advocates say the lighthouse is in danger of collapsing into the river because of stronger waves and currents that are deteriorating wood pilings beneath the foundation.
