"Take This Power," the 8th track on the "Ministry" album, had an Easter egg that we had to split into two separate tracks on the digital version of the album for resale. Here is Track 8 in its original format, with "Take My Heart Away" immediately following a short silence.
In "Take This Power," you can hear Margaret's voice in a haunting doubling of a flute line played on a sampler. This was not planned. During a listening session after I recorded the vocal, Margaret started singing along with the flute. The engineer and I looked at each other, then looked at Margaret. He said, "Yes, let's do it."
In "Take My Heart Away," Margaret does the main singing while I join for backup and take the title line at the end of the song while she finished out. Mine is a role taken by a lot of female background singers in the '70s and '80s, restating a emoting the lead singer's performance with an emotional rendition at the end. There may be a name for this device but I'm not aware of it.
I believe this is the only time to date we used an Easter egg and the only time we used that particular type of vocal ending on a song. Friends who know our catalog may correct me on this. ;-)
