After Beryl, Houston's broiling. Why aren't all city cooling centers open?
After Hurricane Beryl, millions of Houstonians lost power -- and with it, life-saving air-conditioning. The city of Houston struggled to power its cooling centers, but at the first one that it managed to open, Houstonians found relief. Here's what the editorial board saw at the first center Southwest Multi-Service Center, located between Gulfton and Sharpstown.

Mayor Whitmire's vision for safer streets
Critics have questioned Mayor Whitmire’s commitment to pedestrian safety. In his first months in office, he removed medians and curbs on Houston Avenue and ordered a review of bike lanes and other features of the new 11th street redesign in the Heights.
