INSECURITY: ELIMINATE IT ONCE AND FOR ALL
We all experience it every now and then.
Even I feel a flutter in my stomach sometimes, before I call a prospect, or before I speak before a small group of people.
However, there was a time when the insecurity became so intense it started to hurt me in a big way. I felt it all the time, even though I was young and quite fabulous.
Today, as a fiercely confident 50 year old, I can tell other women why it is important to address insecurity and replace it with CONFIDENCE.
Here are the reasons why this matters:
Stress Hormones: Insecurity often triggers the release of stress hormones such as cortisol. Cortisol, when elevated chronically due to stress, can lead to increased abdominal fat deposition, muscle breakdown, and decreased metabolism. This can make it more challenging to lose weight, especially around the midsection.
Thyroid Function: Insecurity and stress can also impact thyroid function. Thyroid hormones play a crucial role in regulating metabolism. When stress hormones are elevated, thyroid function may become dysregulated, leading to a sluggish metabolism, making it harder to lose weight and maintain overall wellness.
Insulin Resistance: Insecurity and chronic stress can lead to insulin resistance. Insulin resistance impairs the body's ability to effectively use insulin to regulate blood sugar levels. This can result in increased fat storage, particularly around the abdomen, and can hinder weight loss efforts.
Adrenal Fatigue: Prolonged feelings of insecurity and stress can lead to adrenal fatigue or dysfunction. The adrenal glands, which produce hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, can become overworked and depleted, affecting energy levels, metabolism, and overall well-being.
Leptin and Ghrelin Regulation: Insecurity can disrupt the balance of hunger-regulating hormones like leptin and ghrelin. Leptin signals satiety to the brain, while ghrelin stimulates hunger. Disruptions in these hormones can lead to increased cravings, overeating, and difficulty maintaining a healthy weight.
Sleep Disturbances: Insecurity often leads to sleep disturbances such as insomnia or poor sleep quality. Lack of sleep can disrupt hormonal balance, particularly affecting hormones involved in appetite regulation and metabolism. This can sabotage weight loss efforts and overall wellness.
Liver Function: Chronic stress and insecurity can also impact liver function. The liver plays a crucial role in metabolizing fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. When liver function is compromised due to stress, it can affect the body's ability to efficiently burn fat and regulate blood sugar levels.
Estrogen Levels: In women over 40, fluctuations in estrogen levels during perimenopause and menopause can exacerbate feelings of insecurity and stress. Estrogen plays a role in metabolism and body composition. Declining estrogen levels can contribute to weight gain, particularly around the abdomen.
Addressing feelings of insecurity through stress management techniques, counseling, and self-care practices can help mitigate these hormonal imbalances and improve overall fitness, wellness, and weight loss efforts in women over 40. Prioritizing activities like regular exercise, adequate sleep, balanced nutrition, and mindfulness can also positively influence hormonal balance and support overall health and well-being.
