Did a recapping job on my early 70’s Kay 848. Thanks to my bro Mark for the guidance! It sounds like new again.

This is a weird early solid state amp with very wattage and the weirdest sounding reverb tank I’ve ever heard, probably because it’s about the size of a candy bar. It’s not loud enough to play with a band and the pioneer stereo speakers in it sounds terrible, but when plugged into a good speaker it sounds awesome and makes it onto a lot of recordings around here.

A few weeks ago it started making a weird ticking sound that had nothing to do with the tremolo, so I asked my brother the electronics expert what he thought and he suggested that in all likelihood there was at least one bad 50+ year old capacitor, and since there are only 18, it would be not to hard and probably a good idea to replace all of them.

$7 and a few hours later it’s all done and it sounds great again! I find it funny how much smaller the new ones are (the blue and black components in the third picture) than the old ones (grey in the second picture). I guess that’s what 50 years of manufacturing improvements does!

This Thursday, come out to the Continental for a rockin tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival! Thunderado is essentially the house band with lots of guest performers and tons of tunes from one of the biggest and best American bands ever! Hunter doesn’t like to brag, but he toured in John Fogerty’s band for five years so he knows the songs pretty well. Don’t miss it!

My first foray into masonry! Reusing the old brick from a chimney I removed to make a façade for the hideous concrete front porch.

Also, I know there are secret handshakes, truths about conspiracy theories, and world domination, but so far masonry just seems like a lot of physical labor.

The outside transformation is complete! Finished painting after new roof, windows, doors, house leveling, lots of repairs to siding, and new pillars to make the porch level. The blue is how the house looked when I bought it, but it’s important to note that it was vinyl siding from the 80’s and was peeling up and falling off the left side of the house (not visible). It did serve to protect the original cedar siding for 50 years though, so it wasn’t all bad.
