Muscogee actor Will (Sonny) Sampson, who is most known for his role in โ€œOne Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nestโ€ playing opposite Jack Nicholson, will be posthumously inducted into the Oklahoma Movie Hall of Fame at the Roxy Theater in Muskogee Oklahoma.
"Will was a dear friend, as was his son Tim and sister. Am happy that he is receiving this honor today. I had the privilege to work with Will in the mini-series 'Mystic Warrior' (1984). He gave me advice while working on this series. I was set to have the lead role and Will was to be cast as the medicine man. What happened was ABC ended up casting the lead role to an Irish actress, dyed her hair black and put contact lenses in and Will's character went to an Italian actor.' Will was a kind man and very supportive of my work. In 1983, he founded the American Indian Registry for the Performing Arts for Native American actors." - Joanelle Romero (RNCI Founder/actress/director/producer)
In addition to his incredible performance as the apparent deaf and mute Chief Bromden in โ€œOne Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,โ€ he also played Crazy Horse in the 1977 western โ€œThe White Buffalo,โ€ as well as Taylor in โ€œPoltergeist II: The Other Sideโ€ and Ten Bears in 1976's โ€œThe Outlaw Josey Wales.โ€For 20 years Sonny competed in rodeos, his specialty being bronco busting. He was also an artist, his artwork has been shown at the Gilcrease Museum and the Philbrook Museum of Art.During the filming of โ€œThe White Buffalo,โ€ Sonny halted production by refusing to act when he discovered that!..

โ€œHANGING MONUMENTโ€: c. 1912.

โ€œMonument indicating where the thirty-eight Dakota were hanged following the U.S.โ€“Dakota War of 1862, Mankato, Minnesota. Placed in 1912, it was removed in 1971.

On the day after Christmas, 1912, several hundred people gathered at the corner of what was then Front and Main streets in downtown Mankato, Minnesota, to mark the 50th anniversary of the largest mass hanging in U.S. history. Thirty-eight Dakota men had been executed at that exact spot for crimes allegedly committed during the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862. The highlight of the 50th anniversary commemoration was the dedication of a granite monument inscribed with the words, โ€œHere Were Hanged 38 Sioux Indians.โ€

In his dedication address, Judge Lorin Cray rejected any notion that the monument inappropriately glorified a mass killing. As the Mankato Free Press reported, he โ€œwished to have it understood that the monument [had] not been erected to gloat over the deaths of the redmen,โ€ but was instead meant โ€œsimply to record accurately an event in history.โ€

The following year, in 1863, more than 6000 Dakota people were forced to leave their home land and relocate to South Dakota and Nebraska. The name โ€œMinnesotaโ€ itself, is a Dakota word that means, โ€œSky Tinted Waterโ€.

The judgeโ€™s assessment held sway for more than four decades.

The "Hanging Monument" in Mankato, Minnesota, was a four-ton granite marker that read "Here Were Hanged 38 Sioux Indians: Dec. 26th, 1862." It was erected in 1912 by two Dakota War veterans, Judge Lorin Cray and General James H. Baker, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of "the city's most significant event". It originally stood in a grassy plot near the site of the mass ex*****on of 38 Dakota men, but was moved in 1965 to the other side of a gas station, facing the main bridge into town. In 1971, the City of Mankato removed the monument altogether in response to American Indian Movement (AIM) leaders, as well as local citizens pushing for Mankato's designation as an "all American town" by the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission. In the mid-1990s, it disappeared from a city storage yard at Sibley Park, where it had been half-buried under sand. Its current whereabouts are unknown.โ€

Photographer Frank Rinehart took this magnificent photo of Pete Mitchell of the Ponca tribe. Rinehart spent a lot of time photographing the Native American people and their way of life. He wanted to capture their stories and each individual personality through his photos.
The goal was for non-indigenous people to get a glimpse into the their lives and begin to understand them. This photo was taken in 1898, during the Omaha Indian Congress in Nebraska, which was the biggest gathering of Native American tribes of its kind .

Why Isnโ€™t This Map in the History Books?
Native Tribes of North America Mapped
The ancestors of living Native Americans arrived in North America about 15 thousand years ago. As a result, a wide diversity of communities, societies, and cultures finally developed on the continent over the millennia.
NATIVE AMERICAN MAP : ๐Ÿ‘‡
(https://artteeprints79.com/campaign/map01nl)
The population figure for Indigenous peoples in the Americas before the 1492 voyage of Christopher Columbus was 70 million or more.
About 562 tribes inhabited the contiguous U.S. territory. Ten largest North American Indian tribes: Arikara, Cherokee, Iroquois, Pawnee, Sioux, Apache, Eskimo, Comanche, Choctaw, Cree, Ojibwa, Mohawk, Cheyenne, Navajo, Seminole, Hope, Shoshone, Mohican, Shawnee, Miโ€™kmaq, Paiute, Wampanoag, Ho-Chunk, Chumash, Haida.
Below is the tribal map of Pre-European North America.
The old map below gives a Native American perspective by placing the tribes in full flower ~ the โ€œGlory Days.โ€ It is pre-contact from across the eastern sea or, at least, before that contact seriously affected change. Stretching over 400 years, the time of contact was quite different from tribe to tribe. For instance, the โ€œGlory Daysโ€ of the Maya and Aztec came to an end very long before the interior tribes of other areas, with some still resisting almost until the 20th Century.
At one time, numbering in the millions, the native peoples spoke close to 4,000 languages.
The Americasโ€™ European conquest, which began in 1492, ended in a sharp drop in the Native American population through epidemics, hostilities, ethnic cleansing, and slavery.
When the United States was founded, established Native American tribes were viewed as semi-independent nations, as they commonly lived in communities separate from white immigrants.

Thank you for Sharing as we have some of her dolls she made in the museum..
Ya' at' eeh (hello)
My name is Fannie Kee.
I am 87 years old.
I was born on May 4th, 1933
underneath a juniper tree.
I am a Navajo from a community south of Gallup New Mexico called Red Rocks
(Tse Lichii)
My clans are Tsi' na' agjiinii
(Black Sheep Forest People),
born for Ta ' chiinii
(Red Running Into Water).
How did I start making dolls?
When I was a teenager my grandmother, Lilly Morgan Pete, encouraged me to learn how to make dolls.
I learned how to make dolls from watching and observing my grandma.
My grandma did all her sewing by hand and that's how I learned how to sew.
My adoptive mother always told me
"T'aa hwo' aji t' eego"
That's a Navajo saying meaning
"if it is to be, it is up to me".
They always said if I learned how to make dolls that I would have money and it will help me support my family in the future when I become a parent.
Now, many years later I have made thousands of dolls and sold them all over..

Missed the first 20 minutes of the party dedicated to the end of filming of his new movie at one of the clubs in New York.
He waited patiently in the rain to be let in.
No one recognized him.
The club owner said: โ€œI didn't even know Keanu was standing in the rain waiting to get in - he didn't say anything to anyone.โ€
"He travels by public transport."
"He easily communicates with homeless people on the streets and helps them."
- He was only 60 years old (September 2, 1964)
- He can only eat hot dogs in the park, sitting among normal people.
- After filming one of the "Matrix", he gave all the stuntmen a new motorcycle - in recognition of their skills.
- He gave up most of the salaries of the costume designers and computer scientists who drew the special effects on "The Matrix" - deciding that their share of the film's budget was assessed short.
- He reduced his salary for the movie "The Devil's Advocate" to have enough money to invite Al Pacino.
- Almost at the same time his best friend passed away; His girlfriend lost a child and soon died in a car accident, and his sister suffered from leukemia.
Keanu didn't fail: he donated $5 million to the clinic that treated his sister, refused to be filmed (to be with her), and founded the Leukemia Foundation, donating significant amounts from each fee for the movie.
You may have been born a man, but stay a man..

In 1961, Your mother Holt married bank manager Gilbert LaPiere, who adopted Cher (under the name Cheryl LaPiere) and Georganne, and enrolled them at Montclair College Preparatory School, a private school in Encino, whose students were mostly from affluent families. The school's upper-class environment presented a challenge for Cher; biographer Connie Berman wrote, "[she] stood out from the others in both her striking appearance and outgoing personality." A former classmate commented, "I'll never forget seeing Cher for the first time. She was so special ... She was like a movie star, right then and there ... She said she was going to be a movie star and we knew she would." Despite not being an excellent student, Cher was intelligent and creative, according to Berman. She earned high grades, excelling in French and English classes. As an adult, she discovered that she had dyslexia. Cher's unconventional behavior stood out: she performed songs for students during the lunch hours and surprised peers when she wore a midriff-baring top.She later recalled, "I was never really in school. I was always thinking about when I was grown up and famous.
