Happy Halloween! In honor of this spooktacular day, cozy up reading Iker Pelcastre's review of "Saw X." This installment of the popular franchise marks the return of Jigsaw's twisted games, but this time with a character-driven approach directed by Kevin Greutert, known for previous less favored installments. Greutert successfully humanizes John Kramer, the mastermind behind the Jigsaw games, in the film's first and second acts, making the audience sympathize with him for once. The third act finally fulfills a long-awaited fan concept, as John becomes a participant in one of his own games. The majority of the film is well-executed, offering detailed explanations and rewarding consequences for actions. However, the ending leaves some questions unanswered, which is particularly disappointing given its position as a prequel to the original Saw films. Despite this, "Saw X" caters to fans of the franchise with its character-driven storyline and trademark gruesome horror.

After a five-year break, the Mortal Kombat video game franchise is back with "Mortal Kombat 1," a complete reboot of the series. The game introduces significant character changes, with some characters undergoing reinterpretations. The game features impressive fighting arenas and stunning visuals, showcasing a broad spectrum of colors and unique powers. "Mortal Kombat 1" also continues the franchise's tradition of offering an engaging story mode, with over seven hours of content and the return of long-lost characters. A new addition is the Kameo mode, allowing players to select a secondary character to assist in battles, similar to other populer fighting game titles. The game plans to introduce downloadable characters from other mediums, such as Omni-Man from "Invincible," Homelander from "The Boys," and DC's antihero Peacemaker. A new game mode called "Invasions" replaces the Krypt from "Mortal Kombat 11" for collecting character gear and extras, offering a more user-friendly experience.Mortal Kombat 1 is available on all gaming platforms. While it's a fun experience, it falls short of its predecessors. Time will determine if Mortal Kombat 1 can surpass its predecessor in popularity.
