Congratulations to Amelia County native Luther Cifers for winning the Republican nomination for Virginia's 10th District Senate seat, which is being vacated by John McGuire who won the November election to replace Representative Bob Good in Congress. Mr. Cifers will now face Democrat Jack Trammel in the Jan. 7 special election. Virginia's 10th Senate District includes Amelia, Goochland, Louisa, Cumberland, Prince Edward, Hanover, Appomattox, Cumberland, Powhatan, and Fluvanna counties.

Here are the results of the Dec. 12 traffic enforcement operation on Hull Street Road: Police stopped a total of 99 vehicles. Officers issued 112 summonses and 45 written warnings for a variety of traffic-related offenses.
The highest speed of the day was 81 mph in a 45-mph zone on Hull Street Road near the Route 288 interchange; that driver was charged with reckless driving.
Also of note, a juvenile was cited for driving 73 mph in a 45-mph zone and for driving on a learners permit without a licensed driver in the vehicle.
One 18-wheeler was cited for driving 65 mph in a 45-mph zone.

Chesterfield County Police will conduct a traffic enforcement operation on Hull Street Road TOMORROW, Dec. 12.
Additional officers will patrol the length of Hull Street Road with an emphasis on the area between the Route 288 interchange and Courthouse Road. Enforcement will focus on speeding, reckless driving, red-light running, impaired driving and mobile device use while driving.
Remember to buckle up, drive sober, slow down, put the phone down and move over for first responders.

After very cold temperatures the past couple of days, it will feel very mild today with highs rising all the way into the low to locally mid 60s! The wind will pick up a bit out of the SW, with gusts to 20 mph likely today

The newspaper office has been inundated with phone calls this morning from Amelia subscribers who did not receive their newspaper yesterday or today.

According to the Amelia Court House Virginia post office, due to staffing issues, at least one entire route, may not receive mail until Monday.

A strong cold front crosses the area this morning, bringing gusty winds and falling temperatures. Winds may gust as high as 40 to 50 mph along the coast and 35 to 40 mph inland today. Temperatures drop back into the teens and 20s tonight.
