From the opening tip, our defensive intensity set the tone and allowed us to control the game. We were connected on that end of the floor, communicated well, and rebounded as a group, which made it difficult for Wayland to find any sustained rhythm.
๐‰๐จ๐ซ๐๐ฒ๐ง ๐ƒ๐ฒ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  led us offensively with 26 points while continuing to impact the game on both ends. ๐‘๐š๐ž๐ ๐š๐ง ๐„๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ก๐š๐ฆ gave us a strong all-around performance with 14 points and 9 rebounds, and her physicality inside was important for us. Aโ€™Jonay Hawkins was excellent on the glass, pulling down 11 rebounds and giving us a strong presence in the paint.

It was great to see ๐Œ๐š๐ฒ๐ฅ๐ž๐ข๐ ๐ก ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐ง score her first varsity points, and Alissa Haley gave us a nice lift with her energy and activity.
Overall, this was a complete team win. Our defense, rebounding, and willingness to share the workload were the difference, and it was encouraging to see everyone contribute."

With the scored tied at 45 and :02.3 seconds left on the clock, Hornell 9th grader ๐“๐ฒ๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐๐ฎ๐œ๐ก๐š๐ง๐š๐ง made a perfect pass to 10th grader ๐๐ž๐ง ๐–๐จ๐จ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ. Ben drove the ball to the basket and released the layup with just 0.1 left to seal the victory over a very good Pavilion team!
The Red Raiders struggled to hit shots in the first quarter and found themselves down 24-18 going into halftime.
Coming out strong in the second half, the Raiders found themselves slowly chipping away at the Pavilion lead, and the game was neck-and-neck until the final seconds.
Up 45-43 with 2.3 seconds left in the game, Hornell was called for a foul trying to intercept a long Pavilion pass. Pavilion's Keean Cummins hit both free throws to tie the game. After a quick time out from coach Scholes, Buchanan threw the long ball to Ben Woolever, who took a dribble to the basket and hit the layup at the buzzer for the win.
