HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT /9 PM EDT/ THIS EVENING

WHAT: Heat index values around 105 to 110 degrees.

WHERE: Portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

WHEN: Until 8 PM CDT /9 PM EDT/ this evening.

IMPACTS: Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms may provide periods of relief from the heat and humidity, mainly along and north of Interstate 64.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

UPDATE 6:30pm

Three (3) total patients were transported in critical condition. One adult female was transported by ground to JSMC with life-threatening conditions, two children (3yo / 8yo) were transported by helicopter to Vanderbilt Pediatrics in Nashville, TN. Only one vehicle was involved in this accident.

Multiple EMS units are on-scene of a motor vehicle accident in the area of Highway 68-80E and Vaughns Grove - Little River Road. Dispatch and radio traffic indicate a severe collision with the ejection of multiple patients. Multiple helicopters are en route and have been instructed to land on site.

Please use caution if traveling through this area. This post will be updated as more information is gathered.
