Aloha dear lady! As you know this year we’ve kicked off our GIVE, JOY, LIVE campaign as a two-fold initiative.

( One, to bring more joy and uplift our sisters feeling depleted + emotionally downcast through the extensively proven effects of giving, loving and focusing on others... AND two, To contribute an extra seed of love that we know our world increasingly needs each day.)

So, February, as Black History Month, shines a powerful light on the Black American experience, and in the spirit of celebrating the month of love altogether, we’re loving on our African American friends, coworkers, neighbors, and pretty much anyone you know in the Black community that could use a little encouragement and reminder that they are loved. Good morning sweet sister. Just a simple reminder and encouragement that perhaps what you’re praying and waiting on God for may simply be taking some time for reasons you may or may not understand. (Preparation, growth, maturity, groundedness or character building) But that delay, doesn’t naturally signal a denial on God’s part. May delay not discourage our hearts when we’re at the cusp of something profound. 🙏🏽💕

(Español abajo👇🏽) When something like this sky flashes before my eyes, I can’t help but confirm the fingerprint of a generous, creative and loving God. A God that has designed nature beautifully even with its asymmetrical flaws and imperfections.

And isn’t that what we love about uncured wood, wild waves and weird animal-shaped clouds that change by the minute? Their variety in form and lack of homogeny?

Then why is it so easy for us to tear ourselves and others down at the sight of a slight crack? Why do we pick at and endlessly obsess over every blemish in our appearance, every quirk in our personality and every difference in our character? (And those of others)

Perhaps it’s time we begin to renew our minds and see our humanity as sacred and intentionally diverse as nature illustrates. Perhaps it’s time to reframe the flaws as part of the rustic origin that gives us worth, much like that expensive piece of lumber. Perhaps it’s time to give other people the grace we give a flower on the ground. Although it’s fallen from the tree, it’s now just as beautiful, but in an unexpectedly different place.

I encourage us beautiful sisters, to renew our minds each and everyday because our eyes are the lamps of our soul and the way we “see” people, circumstances and possibilities, will entirely determine the world WE live in. 🙏🏽💕

Ooooh girl! Life can be quite the trek. Reminds me of this show I’ve recently been watching with (not by choice but it was his turn to pick what to watch and we’ve already seen every single season of The Office about 9 times), “You vs Wild” with Bear Grylls. The interesting thing about this unexpectedly exciting tele-adventure is that you pick where he goes and depending on whether left or right, he has to troubleshoot the challenges on the chosen path. 🗺

Isn’t life just like that? Regardless of which way you go, there WILL be surprises, dangerous river crossings, steep cliffs to hinge on and the occasional food chain topper that hungrily passes by. 🦁 This season one of those challenges has been letting go of what used to be. What used to be before this pandemic, but even more so what used to be before a little human depended on me for everything. The days when time was all mine to decide and steward by the second. The days when date night didn’t include planning. The days when getting ready in the morning didn’t have a 15 minute limit. The days when anything I deemed important always got my full attention. 🤪 These days life is less about “me doing and having a hold on” and more about “me letting and loosening it up.”

It’s not always my preferred stance but there’s one thing I’ve, actually two things I know for SURE... 1) Everyone has struggles. Everyone navigates rocky surfaces. Everyone has to face the wild at some point, and at several points. AND 2) These creepy treks are what bring us CLOSEST to the God who designed the path that would best equip + empower us. As I shared yesterday, too often we pray away our blessing. Not consciously, but since we often underestimate the form and packaging it arrives in, we inevitably reject the parcel and therefore miss the very thing we’re praying and waiting for...

So I guess the big lesson for the day is... if you’re struggling with ANYTHING.... take a breath, exhale + remember that you’re not the only one... no matter what you see on digital mediums... we are ALL navigating something. But most importantly, dig for the treasure in your SOMETHING! Love you. 😘💕comment “navigate” if you can relate

Did you know that we’re pretty poor predictors of what will actually make us happy or fulfilled?

When we look at what positive psychology research demonstrates, we prove time and time again how much we seek, pursue and follow after things, people and circumstances that leave us confused + depleted at the tail end of a relationship with said pursuits.

Although we have the agency to pick and choose those pursuits, we rarely exercise our freedom to not be defined by them.

In a world dominated by the egoic nature of identifying with form, (titles, positions, wealth, appearance, social strata) there’s still an option that although less popular or instantly gratifying, is trustworthy and long-lasting ( or better yet, eternal.) And that option is identifying with Jesus.

See when we hang + tie our identity to Jesus, we don’t rely on a transient standard, a surface level worth or an exhausting pursuit. We can rather enjoy the peace of a fortress resting on solid rock.

So while it’s incredibly easy (although not fun) to play “hide and seek” with our identity and more often than not find it in obscure places, my encouragement would be that we play “hard to get” with the pressure filled lies spewed by the enemy of our souls and stand in the one place we’ll always find immunity... Jesus Christ.
