Often times in our Asian households, we refrain from asking for help because it either ties down to being a burden to the other person which causes us to take all the load which results in burn outs!
In @asiansformentalhealth, Permission to Call Hope book it calls us to not only set a boundary with an individual to also have that vulnerability to ask someone to help lighten any pressure that we might feel.
Filipino household have certain values that sometimes makes it harder for us to do this due to “walang hiya,” & “utang na loob,” if you are unfamiliar what these two values are we made a post a while back but generally Walang Hiya means to have no shame, and Utang Na loob is a debt of inner self.

When it comes to reclaim our own identity, it’s through looking back at our history and learning where our ancestors came.
During our conversations in the podcast, Blessie shared a little about how she came into learning her Filipino culture again through the opportunity of registering to the classes being offered at UH Manoa’s Philippine Studies program.
For us, and the rest of the diaspora. What seems to be getting in the way for you in learning more about your history?
Don’t forget the episode is available to listen to on Spotify, Anchor, Apple & All streaming podcast platforms! 🙌🏽

You are FILIPINO enough! :)
Not knowing the language doesn’t make you any lesser Filipino. If you don’t know how to speak the language, that’s ok. Overtime you will learn, just don’t be too hard on yourself!
On a separate note, what language does your family speak or what region is your family from? 😊 (it’s okay if you don’t have an answer to both!)
This video has been in the works for awhile, but now we would like to introduce you all to Kabayan Hall established and run by the Murakami Family! We had the opportunity to sit down with them and listen to their stories about running a family-owned and operated business as well as hear some of their future plans/goals for Murakami Productions, Kabayan Hall, and the Waipahu Family Market.
From doing small singing gigs back in 2015 to now renting out and planning events in their own venue located in Waipahu on O'ahu, Derek and Michelle Murakami have grown and expanded their business ventures with the help of their two daughters, Yumi and Linka. By aiming to work with local, small businesses, vendors, creators, and artists, the Murakamis hope to bring people together and strengthen the community during these challenging times. Head to their business pages and website (www.kabayanhall.com) to learn about their services and upcoming events!
