Mahalo to ‘Ohana Puakea for showing me their hālau wa’a (canoe club) in He’eia today.

Many on the windward side consider them fixtures in the community after heading years of paddling programs.

Their canoe club has been robbed twice in recent years. Then last Thursday, an electrical fire charred much of their home.

They say they’ve been overwhelmed with support from the community through all of the misfortune—but they still need more than $30,000 to repair their home.
