Meet Eleanor Svaton, the mind behind the Desk.

Originally from Holyoke, Massachusetts, this lover of humanity, life, and literature has been a Honolulu resident for the past 20 years, working in the food & beverage industry at places like Chef Mavro, Nobu, and Fête while earning bachelor and master’s degrees in English from UHM, studying abroad in South Korea, acting in, writing about, and directing local theatre, teaching language and writing classes to students from all over the world, creating 3 new humans, and launching The Desk Publishing.

Eleanor loves to tell stories. She loves considering denotations and connotations of language, pulling at loose narrative threads, sharing an author’s vision and helping them to hone it and bring the best possible version of it to their audience—that’s Eleanor’s superpower.

“When I’m in editor mode, it’s like solving a puzzle. A little alarm goes off in my brain somewhere when I am reading and there’s room for improvement, and it won’t stop until I resolve whatever is bothering me.”

To create Providence in the Pacific, we not only worked with Dr. Corboy from the very first page and paragraph, but we also took his treasure trove of old photos and transformed them into beautifully preserved digital memories to be used for the book and for whatever else he might wish in the future.

The photos shared here capture the years when Dr. Corboy‘s father was called away during World War II, and so we see Mom, helper Mac, and Grandma caring for the boys over the holidays.

Collaborating with Dr. Corboy was an honor, and we are grateful for his trust in our ability to capture his memories authentically. We believe that everyone has a story worth sharing, and it is our passion to help individuals like Dr. Corboy bring their visions to fruition.
