The Smithsonian is coming to Belton and we would love you to be a part of this historic event!
On Sunday, March 2, from 3 – 5 pm, the Belton Area Museum Association will host a community celebration at the Belton Depot marking the opening of SPARK! Places of Innovation!
This traveling Smithsonian Museums on Main Street exhibit explores the unique combination of places, people, and circumstances that sparks innovation and invention in rural communities. Photographs, engaging interactives, objects, videos, and digital stories bring a multilayered experience to reveal the leaders, challenges, successes, and future of innovation in each town.
In addition to the large panels and interactive displays from the Smithsonian, there will also be displays celebrating the many ways Beltonians have used creativity and innovation in everything from industry to music and the arts.
Included in the local content, visitors will be able to watch interviews about the integration of the local schools, conducted by Belton Middle School students. They can check out inventions designed by students at the career centers in Anderson County this year. Attendees can meet entrepreneurs and inventors who have obtained patents for their ideas and learn about their experiences with the process. There will also be an opportunity for people to create their own invention.
The museum will be hosting a variety of activities in conjunction with this exhibit. Check out BAMA’s page for more information about the SPARK! Invention Convention, the SPARK! Farm to Fork Event, and the SPARK! Communal Pen Writing Seminar.
The exhibit will be open through April 12, 2025. Make plans to stop by to see this exciting exhibit and learn about the imaginative ways people have used their creative spark.
The museum is open Wednesday-Friday 9 am-2 pm, and Saturdays 10 am-12 noon. Special tours can be arranged at other times by contacting the museum at 864-338-7400 or emailing [email protected].
The exhibit is free to visit thanks to our sponsors: Humanities SC, WebbCraft Family Foundation, BOSCH, City of Belton HTAX and Anderson County ATAX.
Come join us on Sunday, March 2, for the first glimpse of this amazing exhibit!
