"Check out the wood I created! Simple yet versatile. Straight-forward yet flexible. Whether I'm playing punk rock, pop or anything in-between, the H-220 lets me easily switch gears without having to switch sticks."
- Josh Freese

Between a 5A & 5B, with a quick taper and heavy shoulder. A bit more weight up top for a solid feel, great response and durability, yet still sensitive enough for lighter playing. A slightly enlarged version of a 5A tip. Hickory.

Length 16" | 40.64cm
Grip 0.580" | 1.47cm

Carl Palmer’s new stick design is .580” [1.47cm] in diameter, so the grip is comfortably in between a 5A and 5B in size, and 16” [40.64cm] in length. The long, gradual taper to the medium-sized teardrop/oval hybrid tip makes it a stick that gives a quick rebound with clean/defined tones from around the drum kit.

Lathe turned from American Hickory for durability, Carl’s model is designed for versatility to cover energetic, up-tempo playing to straight-ahead grooving at all dynamic levels.

The tip of a drumstick impacts the sound more than any other factor. A small tip will give you a bright, clean sound on the cymbals. A large tip will produce a warm, full tone.

The other option to consider is nylon vs. wood. Neither is better or worse. If you want a bright, clean sound that will cut through guitars and bass then you want to go with a nylon tip. If you want a warmer, natural tone that will blend in with the surrounding sounds then you want to go with a wood tip.

TEARDROP
Produce rich, dark tones with focused lows.

ACORN
Produce a full, fat sound. Very responsive.

BARREL
Tips produce a full punchy sound. Great for louder volume situations

BALL
Tips produce a clean, bright, and articulate sound

OVAL
Tips produce a broad, mid-range sound due to tip length

Recorded by Vater Artist and Producer, Tim Rankin at T-Time Studios. All tips were recorded using 2 x Rode NT2A overheads mics, place equal distance from the snare as is the use for a normal recording. Recorded from the perspective of a right-hand drummer. Using Audient preamps and analog to digital conversion. No additional eq or compression was applied. Volume levels gain and volume was not adjusted during the post and recording stages. All sticks were recorded equally. The volume difference will be weight added from the stick causing extra velocity.

The Vater Extended Play™ Series is an extremely durable drumstick that has two distinct features to help address issues of common wear and tear on a player’s drumsticks.

The first feature is a pearl-colored, specially formulated durable finish that protects the tip and shoulder area of the stick to slow early chipping and cracking.

The second feature is our exclusive 3-inch “ Stick Shield™ “ located in the rimshot area that is highly impact resistant and 8X stronger than Steel with maximum tensile strength.

The grip area of the stick has the same great-feeling finish as found on all Vater Sticks. Extended Play™ sticks offer the optimal balance and feel of a Vater hickory stick, with advanced durability and resistance to rimshot fatigue and breakage.

“In the past, I would typically get one 45-minute show out of a pair of sticks. Luckily, Vater Extended Play™ sticks have changed that. I’m now getting 5 shows out of a single pair of sticks and am able to lay into rimshots without worrying about stick durability.”
- Elliot Babin [Touche Amore]
