Press release from the Hardin County Sheriff's Office about the fatality in Upton Wednesday:

At 11:53 on Wednesday, July 30th a 911 call was received of a reported vehicle versus pedestrian accident on US 31W in front of the US Post Office in Upton. Upton Fire and Rescue immediately started first aid upon arrival on scene. An air ambulance was immediately called but the victim passed away prior to their arrival. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian did not stop and HCSO Deputies were able to retrieve video footage of the crash from a nearby business and immediately started looking for the vehicle. In the meantime a call was received that the vehicle was trying to pull into a barn a couple miles into Hart County. The Hart County Sheriff’s Office along with Hardin County Deputies located the vehicle and suspect. He was arrested and charged with DUI and lodged in the Hart County Jail. Traffic and criminal charges are forthcoming from Hardin County. The victim, Pete Hawk, 71 of Upton was pronounced dead on the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office. The accused, Matthew Bush is in the Hart County Jail. The crash is under investigation by the HCSO Reconstruction Unit and the HCSO Criminal Investigation Division.

Update—the road is clear now

An ABE listener reports a large tree across 1906 on the Magnolia end.

Update 8:30pm: there is still significant damage to our infrastructure in several parts of our service area and the added challenge of a large number of downed trees makes repair and restoration more complicated. Though our linemen and right-of-way crews have all been out working (after today’s storm, and before from yesterday’s storm), we expect that outages will continue through tomorrow. We appreciate our members’ patience as we continue to work through the damage.

Update 7:30pm: 460 members are without power at this time. We understand that it is frustrating to be without power, but our crews are working as quickly and safely as they can to make repairs caused by the recent storms. They will continue to do so until our entire service area is restored.

Update 5:45pm: crews have outages to 1833 members and continue to work.

The latest round of storms have caused more damage to our system and currently we have 2004 members without power primarily in Hardin and LaRue Counties. Our crews are responding to make repairs as quickly and safely as possible.

Age Groups:
Newborn to 6 months
6 months to 12 months
12 months to 18 months
18 months to 24 months

Rules:
Child must be a resident of LaRue County.
Entry fee is $10 cash to be paid at time of registration.
Registration begins at 6:00pm the day of the contest.
Childs age is based on the age the day of the contest.
Each age group will have a boy and girl winner, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up.

I-65 Southbound Between Exits 76 & 71 Near Hart/Hardin Line

Update: Scene is clear and traffic is moving normally.

A truck fire is partially blocking southbound lanes just south of Exit 76 at Upton. The semi is on the outside shoulder. Clean up will require offloading the trailer and it will take a couple of hours for the scene to clear. Expect delays upon approaching the area and consider exiting the interstate ahead of Exit 76 and using 31W to rejoin the interstate around Munfordville.
