Today's tip is to be flexible. While I recommend being prepared with composition ideas, if those don't workout, don't get stuck. Look for new inspiration and move on.

In this case, I was given the task of taking photos of backyard beekeeper, Lawon Clarke Greet Hingham's June cover. I had lots of creative ideas that included lots of bees buzzing around and dripping honey. When I arrived, on a cold, early spring day, the entire scene was void of bees. Time to throw away the index cards and come up with something new.

Lawson donned his beekeeping suit and I started feeling inspired. He fired up his smoker and I thought, "Aha! I think we are on to something here!" I really like this image because of the story that it tells. I like the smoke wafting up from the metallic smoker and the subject's face can just be made out inside the hood.

😏 SNEAK PEEK! In this month’s June issue, Hingham resident Lawson Clarke shares his year-long hobby with us. “When I first started beekeeping, it was mostly in service of my garden. Bees are great pollinators, so it seemed a great way to boost my annual harvest. But then I tasted the honey these bees were producing, and I was knocked out.”And the story goes on from there. Thank you, Lawson, for contributing your sweet expertise with us. We are grateful for the education and for getting to know you! ❤️🤍🐝🍯
