Another George Nuku exhibit will be featured at this year's Big Island Arts Summit, along with art from many other talented artists from across Oceania. Everyone is welcome to come join in the celebration of the art and culture that sustains our Pacific Island communities.

Kia ora,

Bottlecaps are one of many things that get lost in our oceans and put local ecosystems and wildlife at risk. Art, such as George Nuku’s work and outreach about utilizing recycled plastics, is a great way to take harmful materials out of the ocean and positively repurpose them while bringing engagement and awareness to our local communities.

Talofa lava!

Some amazing American Samoan artists made these siapo pieces at the recent 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture. This style of art uses the bark of a mulberry tree, the fruit of the pandanus plant, and the black pigment of kukui nuts as its materials. Fa'afetai, thank you for keeping this beautiful tradition alive.

This is American Samoan siapo, a style of art made from bark cloth that then gets painted with patterns. This particular piece was at the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture in Honolulu, Hawai’i.
