We're combining "exploratory portals" along with music, the visual arts, AI design technology and story-telling. Led by our Indigenous, Native American, other global artists and our Hall of Fame inductees, DWF is creating the virtual exhibit platform for telling their stories in their own words, voices and languages through the use of “edu-tainment” as an inter-active, immersive and engaging experience for our youth and future generations. ✨ Zebras, Giraffes, Twinkies, Banana Shakes, Loyalty and Kevin Costner✨

It’s amazing how a single conversation, a kind word and a piece of advice can ripple through a person’s life and shape its course. For me, that conversation happened with someone who has unknowingly been a source of inspiration for years: Kevin Costner is the person I would gladly share some Twinkies and my Mitchell’s banana shake with.

💭 Let me take you back…
In 1987, as a 23-year-old hotel reservations manager, I saw “No Way Out” on the big screen and became captivated by Kevin's talent as well as his intensity in that role. And yes, of course, his looks too. (That goes without saying😍)
But something told me—call it intuition, call it a spark of manifesting before I even knew the term—that one day, I would meet him. I didn’t know how or when, but I just “knew” and it would change my life.
Kevin's photo sat framed on my desk. Yes, I was teased by my staff but we’re talking I was then and I am today a true blue fan!

Over the years, I’ve followed all of his work—from Dances With Wolves, Bull Durham, Tin Cup, Field Of Dreams, to his most recent Yellowstone and Horizon roles ( on IG) as well as his musical career ( on IG)

In 1997, I drove down to Pebble Beach with my trusty Canon to photograph him at the annual AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament. I got some incredible close up shots of him on the golf course. But no, I didn’t meet him.

🎥 Then it happened!
Twenty one years ago in 2003, at a preview screening of Open Range in San Francisco, my “manifestation” came true! Michael Olcese made it happen for me (and I did not make it easy for him, trust me!) I was in a bit of a funk and was not up to going out that night. But Michael was relentless and pushed me to get dressed and go down to that movie theatre. When I arrived he gave me one of the most phenomenal surprises of my life! Kevin Costner was doing a media Q&A session after the screening! Imagine my surprise!

After watching this masterpiece called Open Range, I was the last in line to meet Kevin. He was so relaxed and genuinely happy to meet and talk to all the folks in front of me. To my sheer delight and to my surprise, he stepped down from the stage to talk to me. We had a quiet, intimate conversation in the empty theatre.

I’ll never forget that moment. I blurted out my story of betrayal and disappointment and confessed I was feeling that I should give up on my music career. Instead of brushing me off, he listened—really listened—and shared some advice that has stayed with me to this day:
“Find your tribe of zebras and giraffes,” he said. "Not everyone in the artist community will be or is supposed to be a part of your creative team, but those who are meant to be will lift you up not tear you down. You just have to figure out if you’re a zebra or a giraffe,” he said with a grin.
Then he made me promise: “Listen Carmen, you can quit tomorrow, next week, next year, two years or ten years from now—but promise me you will not quit tonight.”

Now I ask you…what would you have done? No, I didn’t quit that night—or any night after. His words ignited a fire in me that carried me through challenges and triumphs, leading to many a rich and rewarding adventures and a career as an artist, producer, performer, bandleader and lyricist that I’m eternally grateful for. I left that theatre feeling absolutely amazed and in awe that it had indeed happened! I just met Kevin Costner. THE Kevin Costner. And his kindness melted my heart.

🎤 A Full-Circle Moment
About a year later, after starting my own music company and meeting some of THE most amazing musicians, artists & producers on the planet, I was still so profoundly affected by our conversation that I dedicated my music album to Kevin in my CD liner notes. I never expected him to see it; I just wanted to release my gratitude into the universe.

I wanted to document how much he inspired me. How much his kind words meant to me. How they kept me going and I truly feel to this day, had it not been for Kevin Costner's kindness to me when I needed some light and hope, I would never have had the INCREDIBLE wonderful experiences and career in music & the arts if it were not for him. He DID change my life....
But the story didn’t end there.

Also in 2004, I found myself on the set of Rumor Has It as an extra, standing just feet away from Kevin and Jennifer Aniston in a scene shot right outside the St. Francis Hotel that actually made it into the movie.

And then, as if destiny wasn’t done with us, I got to see him again, 21 years, after our first conversation—this time at JT Foxx’s Mega Success stage in Anaheim this past Nov 2024. In my opinion and personal experience he has not changed one bit! There he was imparting kindness and wisdom with humor, humility and passion. Ohh, the passion he has for what he does!

All the emotions and memories of our conversation came flooding back. I felt as if he were speaking directly to me once again, his words struck a chord. He spoke about how his family and friends matter most to him in everything he does. When he was asked about his definition of the word loyalty. HIS definition of loyalty hit home and is something that resonated deeply with me. Turns out the word loyalty inspires him to ask: “How am I being loyal to the people I expect loyalty from?” “How am I showing loyalty to them, first?”

His sincere response was another deeply profound moment for me and spoke to me about his character.

He also went on to speak about taking chances on yourself even when no one else will and pursuing your passions with everything you have. Haters and doubters be damned!

Whoah!! That was a resounding wave of energy that washed over me and even brought tears to my eyes! (Anita, sitting next to me, even asked me if I was alright. Thank you for checking on me my dear friend!)

I was almost not in that seat at that conference last November. But I believe the reason, I was meant to attend the 2024 conference was this, to hear Kevin Costner speak again on stage! What else could it be? This time however, I was facing a slightly different dilemma. I had started second guessing my vision for my inter-generational & multi-cultural Indigenous and World Music Metaverse Hall of Fame idea based on someone’s brutally unkind critique. Was I dreaming too big? Was my vision too grand?

But listening to Kevin Costner rekindled my resolve.
“I’m not making my vision smaller,” I told myself as I was getting ready for our photo opp “Not now, not ever.”

💡 The Power of Kind Words
Mr. Kevin Costner’s kindness, wisdom and encouragement have shaped my life in ways I can’t fully describe. His words reminded me of the enormous impact we can have on others—how a moment of genuine connection can inspire someone to keep going, to believe in themselves and to not simply chase their dreams but make them happen…no matter what!
So, to anyone reading this and looking for (3) EASY ways to help others:

💬 Speak words that LIFT and INSPIRE.
🌟 MENTOR, SUPPORT & ENCOURAGE the dreamers around you. You never know how your actions or words might change someone’s life.

And to Mr. Costner, should this message ever find its way to you: Thank you, from the bottom of my heart once again! Know that some of us continue to appreciate and admire your stories, watch your cinematic works, hear your words, celebrate your successes and are deeply affected by your actions. Your words have guided me throughout my life and all my extraordinary musical adventures and for that, I’ll always be grateful.

🌟 What’s the story behind - A Wellness Company 🌿✨

I get asked this all the time, and honestly, it’s a challenge to share it in just 300 words (those who know me are probably laughing right now 😂). But here’s my best shot because this story is one I had to submit, because, well, I accepted the challenge! So here it is!

When Mami was diagnosed with cancer, my world collapsed. 💔Caring for her, I desperately sought products that were safer, healthier and truly effective. I wanted to ease her pain, soothe her aching muscles and provide some comfort. But nothing felt right.
I was determined to create something better—not just for her, but for all cancer warriors. Through my grief, a DIVINE purpose emerged: to honor my Mami, my Abuelita and my Ancestors by helping others live healthier lives using ancient plant remedies. But I still needed something more unique!

This is how DIVINA A Bio-Resonance Frequency Wellness company was born.

However, this journey wasn’t without doubt.

Two years ago, in the Arizona desert, I stood at the brink of giving up on my purpose. Frustrated and uncertain, I confided in my mentor. 😞I was ready to quit. That’s when the universe intervened. 🌩An idea struck like lightning ⚡
