Apparently, the interwebs likes hand videos. The numbers are through the roof. Why fight it. This task takes a while to get right. Copper wire comes with a coating to keep it from grounding out against itself when coiled. Different coatings serve different purposes. They also sound different! In order to insure that there is maximum transfer of signal, I sand the coating off at the point where I connect the wire to the leads. You will find a lot of builders don’t do this. The theory is that the coating melts away when you solder. Maybe so, but where does that coating go when it melts. It’s still there, somewhere and I don’t like that. I want the best sounding pickup possible, not the easiest assembly possible. Taping off the poles in a tele bridge before I wind. This little step helps prevent cross contamination from the poles to the coil and visa versa from sweat and grime after years of playing. But a lot of builders skip this step. One, because it takes up time and “time is money”. Two, no one will know. And three, most people don’t play enough to cause such a thing.
