‼️Long Post Alert‼️
TLDR: Liar, Liar, Pants on fire! I've made my personal selection between the two candidates. Last paragraph says whom.
Just like with the local elections, I wasn't going to weigh in on the Hill Harper and Elissa Slotkin Congressional Democratic Race. I've held my views and was going to wait until this leg of the race to passed, but tonight it weighed heavily on my spirit to make a definitive post.
It is important that, while I am posting this on my public figure page, it is my personal perspective and not a stance from this page; albeit, it may be considered to be a position with some weight behind it because I posted it on this page, in which it would be okay for them to take it as such, as I wouldn't say anything differently, except "my official position is 'no position,' but my personal position is [this, which will be typed here], and there would still be no difference, except that I'm not taking a position for others to join in on, even though they may."
It is also important to note that my perspective on this race may not be popular with some, but it is my position, and I've never aimed to be popular nor accepted. My posture has always been to be genuine, authentic, truthful, honest, to operate with integrity, and to work to ensure the people win the best I can. That will never change no matter how unpopular my position is, no matter how many people agree with me, and no matter how many people turn on me for my perspective. I know I stand out because I am okay with saying things that may be unpopular in certain circles. Tomorrow, I will say something unpopular with another group. But, while unpopular, it is always genuine and caring, even if direct.
I'm not, nor will I ever be, beholdened to one group over another, but the people only, and it is important to speak to all positions, even if unpopular. We've seen, through the years, that our unpopular positions have become popular and effected much successful change that benefits the people, and we will not stop fighting for the people no matter how upset some get with us. Oftentimes, we say the thing many are already thinking; we just vocalize it for all to hear, for change to benefit the people.
Now, to the subject at hand, which will eventually lead into the screenshot I posted....
This race has been a nasty race. As you all know, I am all for exposure--substantiated and supported exposure with facts and supported evidence, but I am not for what we've seen from both sides, and I've been watching closely.
In this race, we've seen mudslinging, misrepresented statements and positions of the other candidate, blatant lies, narrative creation as opposed to narrative reality, and unsubstantiated/barely substantiated claims against the other. It's been nasty, and I have to consider whether I would want either in this race. And, this has occurred by both campaigns.
On the onset, I really wanted to see Hill Harper win for so many reasons, but after a while it moved from really wanting Hill Harper to win to leaning towards Hill Harper.
One thing I don't like is liars. I don't like thieves. I don't like disingenuous statements. And, all of these categories are the same to me. If you are a liar, you are a liar. If you are a thief, you are a liar. If you make disingenuous statements, you are a liar. If you intentionally misrepresent statements about another person, you are a liar.
Hill Harper has stolen language that wasn't his to use it for his campaign. Hill Harper has made statements as if he was acting in a TV show or movie, and it came off very disingenuous. Hill Harper has intentionally misrepresented statements and positions about his opponent. He is a liar. Do I believe that he believes in the many causes he fights for? Yes, but I'm not sure he will really follow through though. I believe Hill Harper is an opportunitist.
Elissa Slotkin is a politician. Innately, politicians (claiming or demonstrating to be one) are deceitful so she is starting from a position of standing in the arena of a liar. Elissa Slotkin, I do believe is genuine about what she says and has a passion in her fights that comes across as completely genuine. I do believe she comes across more genuine that Hill Harper by leaps and bounds. Nevertheless, Elissa Slotkin has misrepresented statements of Hill Harper.
Do I believe that she believes in the causes that she has highlighted in this race? For what she has demonstrated to be passionate about, yes. For what she has turned to highlight because of whom her opponent is and what her opponent says, no; I believe she is disingenuous in that respect and her suburbanite*, downward gaze approach at addressing these issues is an approach that, historically, hasn't worked for those that fall into those categories, is an approach that demonstrates an inability to really relate and is perceived as disregarding, and is an approach hard to be removed from because that is her experience. I believe Elissa Slotkin is a liar.
(*Note: Suburbanite doesn't necessarily mean coming from a suburb, but rather a perspective based on experiences that are in a different "place" that certain others.)
So, if I believe the above, how can I even support either one? I know, right?! It is a tough place and position to be in. It is also why I really don't have a position. I just have an assessment. It's a very tough thing to think through, but I believe it is necessary to have gone through for this next part.
When I read through the article, and listened to the video, one thing kept coming to mind: "Something smells off!" It hit me at the beginning, and it hit me nearly every sentence read and heard -- Something smells off!
Now, as a community advocate, I would have stood 💯 percent behind having a woman and that moderator being an African-American woman moderator, specifically. I also would have cancelled even 30 minutes beforehand. I would have stood behind the voices, which were absolutely correct and righteous in demanding this specific change, but it would be a genuine fight. I wouldn't be simply standing behind them for votes, support, and endorsements, but rather because it was the right thing to do, be damned the votes, the support, and the endorsements.
In addition, the heavy, eccentric, Don King-like verbosity prior to the debate by Hill Harper and then bowing out, with all of these last minute expectations, which I also recognize were positioned from outside influences, causes me to be suspect of this move and the real motivation behind it.
I believe the real motivation was not genuine, but for votes and to be seen and heard by the masses as being the underdog, and that it was a ploy to gain media attention that wouldn't have been available had he engaged in the debate that wouldn't have had as much exposure. I believe this was a deceitful PR move, and not genuine support for the cause. I believe he took an opportunity.
The sad thing is Hill Harper damaged an opportunity for the African-American / Black media station, and I don't blame WHPR TV Detroit Live for taking offense; the action, with what we believe is the real motivation, was offense-ladened.
In this, he has pitted one area of the Black community against the other. Had this been a righteous move, which I don't see it to be, the damage would have been mitigated naturally. And, the distinction between this being something worthy of mitigation is the motive behind it. In my opinion the motivation was votes, support, and endorsements, and is not worthy of mitigation, but rather, a lost opportunity to be the Democratic choice.
Because of this, still undecided throughout, where I was heavily leaning Hill Harper, then leaning Hill Harper, I am now all in for Elissa Slotkin FIRM for this Democratic Selection Process, and I'm not sure I would be able to vote for Hill Harper if he does get past this stage. I would have to assess.
My hope is that Elissa Slotkin doesn't pass up on this opportunity to speak to the people, and works with the radio station to do so, even if it is just her.
