Congrats to Mark Lindsay on his 100th American Revolution show on SiriusXM's Little Steven's Underground Garage! Mark (and his wife Deb) puts a lot of care into each show and you get a sense of the man from the songs he chooses. I doff my tri-cornered hat to him for the props he gave me, The Grip Weeds and The House Of Vibes towards the end of the show after playing one of our songs. He talked about the recent interview I did for TapeOp magazine which included some anecdotes about our working together in the studio. Read about it here, and by all means tune into The American Revolution every weekend for musical cues from the master!

Our flagship studio, House Of Vibes in Highland Park, gets a focus piece in the great audio/recording magazine Tape Op! House Of Vibes has analog and digital equipment and has been home not only to all of the Grip Weeds' recordings but many other New Jersey bands, some of whom have had "Coolest Songs of the Week" on the Underground Garage Sirius Radio program. Kurt gives a fascinating interview about the origins of the studio, how we got into recording in the first place, and who has recorded here.

Drum Geek day! For the last few years I've been on a quest for snare tone. Each one has its sound. Brass is bright, wood is darker and aluminum is right up the middle. The snare depth is a big deal too- 5" or 6.5" makes a huge difference. It's like wine- once you develop discerning ears there's a universe in each drum. I've cobbled together a nice array hear that work in the studio or stage, depending on the song, style or venue. The family pic from left to right: '67 Ludwig Supraphonic 5" (got this drum at the start of The Grip Weeds- most recorded drum in history (Hal Blaine)); Ludwig Supraphonic 6.5" (of John Bonham fame- just got this newer drum!); Ludwig Black Beauty 6.5" (the gold standard!); 70's Slingerlands: Sound King 6.5" (had one of these in high school- didn't know what I had!), Buddy Rich 6.5" brass (top of the line for its time with three vents and a TDR strainer), Buddy Rich 6.5" maple (chrome wrapped- pretty hard to find!); '60's Ludwig Jazz Festival 5" (Ringo!); '57 WFL Pioneer 5.5" (this spent decades in Kristin's father's attic). The trouble is you can only play one at a time!
