A deep dive into the challenges with keeping comics affordable. Thanks Bryan Reesman for including Hero Tomorrow's Ted Sikora!

Can indie comics publishers survive rising prices?

"Aside from getting ballbusted about the Guardians/Yankees the entire weekend New York Comic Con was slammin' — clocking in the #2 all-time in sales for Hero Tomorrow Comics!

NYCC is the home away from home show. The connection to readers new and returning is unlike any con outside of Cleveland. It’s also the show that originally sparked the idea to create a Tap Dance Killer spin-off series.

And it’s the show where a woman several years ago emphatically told me, “It’s great that you have lead characters who are Black, but what about Latino?”

Little did she know that an idea for such a character had been brewing in my head from a vacation to Mexico we had taken earlier that same year. I didn’t have it all figured out then, but she gave me fuel to keep pushing.

Violanté The Undead’s NYCC debut was everything I’d hoped it would be. The pics show it better than I can say it. Thank you to the attendees who visited our booth from Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Jersey, Long Island, Staten Island, and folks from Germany to France to Australia!

As always thanks to my creative partners in all these crimes Milo Miller, Benito Gallego ART, Donny Hadiwidjaja, Butch Mapa, Yvel Guichet Chis Inker"

I don’t know the relationship between the young girl and two Vamps, but they seemed to perhaps be family friends.

They approached the table at LA Comic Con, and I went into the Tap Dance Killer pitch. The two women had to pause for a phone call while I continued the story with the young girl who was hella-intent on knowing every detail about Nikki St Clair -- feverishly reading random panels, piecing it together, asking questions-- not wasn’t messing around in the slightest.

When the other two rejoined the conversation my new best friend emphatically finished the pitch for me.

The one ‘auntie’ wanted a copy for herself. I asked if she wanted it personalized, she said yes., I asked her name, and the little girl shouted out her own name. The auntie chuckled and said, "It’s okay. Put her name on it."

Then the young girl interjected, “Wait a minute - If I write a book will I get to sign it?!”

"Yes ma’am, and when you finish it, I’ll buy a copy and you can sign it for me.”

You made the show for me, young lady. ❤️

Back from our best ever Baltimore Comic-Con! This show has been growing steadily for Hero Tomorrow Comics since we first did it back in 2015, and we leveled up nicely in this 2024 edition. Huge thanks to con and all the attendees who stopped by. Great hanging out with so many talented friends.
