Going back to my roots today and tracking on only gear I had back in 2012-2016. All preamps feeding into the Cranesong Spider converters. ADAT into an RME IO Pro card in the Mac. Should be a neat little experiment, maybe it’s just nostalgia but there was something extra special to me about the way all the records I did in that time sounded. Maybe it’s all just great memories. Who knows!

I picked up a Dangerous Liason to try and make my life with hardware a little more fun. I’m honestly surprised at the transparency of this box and being able to audition gear has never been more immediate for me. I also did a bunch of tests shipping the patch bays and trying different cables and found a pretty magical combination that retains as much lovely tone as possible and reduced the noise floor pretty dramatically. Fun!

My buddy Gage came by and we precariously one armed this 10’ panel and screwed it to the ceiling this morning. The ceiling and floor have coupled in a weird way in that spot for a while and I’m glad to finally make some progress on treating it. Also I love building stuff. :) thanks

So one of my had a wire come loose in transit. I certainly wouldn’t recommend flying with stuff like this but it just would have been sad without them on the session. 😅 Seems like no matter how nice it’s packed, the airlines will find a way to rattle your gear to death. So glad it’s an easy fix! Special thanks to for helping me get it repaired.

This is what would happen 10-15 times a day, about every 30 minutes. The M1 Mac mini and Sonnet PCIe chassis hate each other. It was impossible to stay focused and get my work done. Also good lord my old display was dirty 😅

I always tell folks when they come here that nothing is untouchable. I always hoped this place would be more of a playground than a studio.
